Yikes!

From what I read this will effect all government agencies and their vehicles.

As far as consumers , it will affect all models starting with 2009.

Does California have emissions testing? It failed horribly in Florida and was shut down. Nothing was said about bringing that back. if they did, it would be a nightmare.

More global warming hysteria.

Yupper, emissions testing alive and well here -- every two years I think. And of course every time a car is bought/sold and any time one comes into the state you get also get to play the game.

Right now there's a exemption for cars 30 years and older -- but they just proposed a bill to change that, too. We all know how destructive those classic muscle cars are. I mean, hell, I must put at least...oh...200 to 300 miles a year on mine. Thank God the government will finally be cleaning up this massive source of air pollution.

Your gonna love this.

We have emissions testing here in Arizona. Brand-new cars are exempt for the first five years but then they must be tested every single year after that. It is a complete pain in the butt, especially if you have multiple cars and motorcycles. If you have any kind of a collection it gets to be ridiculous. I have to make 14 trips to the emissions testing station with cars and motorcycles every single year. And if anything is out of whack and you don't pass any part of the test you have the hassle of getting whatever is wrong fixed and then going back to have the emissions test redone. The car will normally fail a least one more time requiring a repeat of this exercise in futility. Perhaps if I lived in Montana!

Illinois has only 2 testing areas. The first, of course, is Chicago, but the second are the suburbs around St. Louis. Kind of ridiculous to single out one area only in southern Illinois.

The only difference between Russia and the California legislature is California still has Communists in Power. They are contemplating pulling the exemption on 30+ year old cars because of air pollution, yet they want to give all "Uninvited Foreign Guests" California drivers licenses, and we all know what cars our guests drive, old polluting trucks and junk cars that perhaps increase the pollution many times over what the car enthusiast can muster! Let me see, 4+ million uninvited guests, hmmmmmm, we need to do everything we can to help these people drive polluting automobiles and trucks? Ahh...., lets beat up on the car enthusiast, sounds good, they work, pay taxes, have jobs, good source of taxes and laws to control them, they are a social menace!!!! Duh!

:frown Japan took back HI without a firing a single shot. Mexico is taking back CA also without firing a single shot.

The difference is, the Japanese paid for HI, but the Mexicans didn't, the Californians are footing the bill!

Exhaust testing

I now live in Florida. I did live in NJ and they had emmissions testing required every year. i real pain.

I have not heard about that for Florida. The articles make it sound like it is only for the new car to have emmssion limits at the point of sale. Lets hope that is correct.

If it is not and we must have our cars checked then I will most likely sell my 13 cars set down with only 2 or so. This would be a real pain :ack

One of the issues is california is registering hot rods that have been created using new frames. 500 numbers are issued at the start of the year under sba1578. The line up on the first day of biz at the dmv is awful. Otherwise you need a presmog block (early '60s) or run all the emissions and pass the test based on what the factory listed as the emissions for it.

On top of this shxx we have agents from the state atty gen off (morgester for one) trolling car sites like this one. He even posts.
