I have my 1st track days scheduled for my GT April 12 & 13 at Daytona.

I've done several 100 track days & races in all sorts of cars

Getting my gear together for this

Some new CCW wheels w Hoosiers, racing brake pads, harnesses, mounts, extinguisher, Go Pro 2 etc

On my 512TR I put the more aggressive pads in the rear to calm down the rear end under heavy braking. I imagine the GT is similair under braking.

Any other GT idiosynchracies I need to know before taking GT to track ?

Thanks

Yes,You need a 2 piece floating rotor for the fronts .Brembo makes them for the GT.I really really like the Carbotech pads xp 20 compounds for the fronts and the xp 16 compounds for the rears.I assume based on your experience that you also put in racing brake and clutch fluids. The reservoir for the clutch is quite small so be careful not to bleed it dry.I run Evans coolant ,but if you don't use some water wetter added to your coolant. If your car is a 2005 change the front grill to a 2006 for better cooling. The cars tend to over heat when on slow tracks that require a lot of 2nd gear use.Having driven Daytona (not in a GT ,but in a 911 ) I don't see a problem. For shocks I really like the Penske T&A shocks that a forum member and GT team member Alex Scalagi produces. He was one of the team members at Nardo for famous Mark McGowan 212.mph run. His shocks that have been on a lot of the SCCA class champions cars.He makes a single adjustable (rebound and damping )that are simply awesome for the street and track.Get rid of the stock muffler for weight and heat issues.I like the Gt guys x pipe personally .I also made the brake ducts functional. The Gt guys are going to produce a new radiator system for the Gt to resolve the cooling issue.I will be testing it at the next rally very optimistically!!
Mike JR at Carbotech can be reached at 877-899-5024.Alex can be reached at 313-600-5383
Hope this helps you.Hope you have a wonderful time at Daytona!
Please come join us at the next rally !There is track event included !The rally is this Oct.in New Orleans!!!

Thanks for the input.

Can I just ditch the mufflers & have a muffler shop fab me up some straight pipes ? :biggrin

In April I plan on installing the Brembo big brake kit, Penskes, headers, & maybe a tune if I have enough $ left over

Rocketman really enjoyed the video....nice run

Hubster enjoy the event,,, as for the muffler, the accufab or GT guys muffler is pretty reasonable.

Good luck

Thanks for the video post Ron, that was almost like being back at the rally, however I never went though the track quite that fast.

Did get to re-live the time the Matech car passed me though.

Definitely got me all excited for New Orleans!!

Do the 600 clutch fluid for sure. I lost my clutch to an air bubble because I cooked some fluid out in Vegas. I had to bleed it at the track which is messy but it popped right back up. I gotta do the muffler and brake mods too although the stock brakes worked great for the track I was on. Interested to hear about the cooling options. I was running at 210-220 during my runs, I bet the muffler was good for at least 15 degrees of that.

if you don't have a transaxle cooler already, get one asap. Without it you'll run out of clutch very early in the session.

Thanks, who sells transaxle coolers for the GT ?

I lost the clutch on my 512TR once, then I wrapped the clutch fluid hose in thermal wrap & it never happened again. Hose was on back of engine, pretty dumb place for it

One more thing I would do is bring a torque wrench and set it at 100lbs and crank them down. After 1-2 runs after initialky setting them at 80lbs I had some pretty loose lug nuts. If you are cranking on the car, always check those before each run...

Fellas, Ford's GT Service Manual clearly states the torque specs on the GT wheels is 111, not 100 and certainly not 80! :eek

KJR, the manual is incorrect. It is a misprint. Lug torque should be 98-100. This has been confirmed many times by Fred Goodnough and the GT Guys, etc.

Sounds like fun, got a link for the rally ?

How do you make the brake ducts functional ?

Got my Cooltech transaxle cooler coming via Fed Ex + new wheels & slicks, racing brake pads, harnesses :)
