Pockets, I have a hydrant on my property so I figured I'd stay and fight sunday night. I hooked up 3 100ft 1 1/2" fire hoses, opened the valve aimed the nozzle (for a test run) and let-her-rip. The stream at full force (800gpm) went striaght for about 20ft and then turned 90 degrees in the 70 to 80 mph wind. So I packed up and prepared to run. The winds are truly devastating when mixed with fire.:frown

Steve, you're in my prayers tonight. Hope everything is OK by ya....... If I could do anything to help you or if you need anything for ou and Todd et al. - send E-mail or call me!

Thanks for the very kind words but my problems came and went quickly the first evening/night. Before it really registered how bad it could get, the fire was past me. I packed and the unpacked all in about 6hrs. Mrs stevea and I are truly two of the lucky ones.

Over the years I have lived through many "disasters" here in So Cal. ie floods, mud slides, drought, earthquakes etc. On an overall scale they are mostly overblown and hyped by the media. I read one account that we have more fire evacuees than there were from Katrina.:frown Sadly the fires of 03' and this latest round are the real deal.:frown 1500 homes lost and counting.:thumbsdow A few are confirmed arson, including the one by my house. :thumbsdow:confused:bs:mad:frown

Almost all fires are completely contained at this point. Air quality much improved also.

Here is a good overview:

My propertywas in the roca fire. The house next door to us was lost. But it was not occupied. About 30 acres of my property was burned. and we lost our well, But our house under construction was spared because I have no ground vegitation For 2 acres around the house. I also lost my corner markings so I need to have the property resurveyed. But all in all we came thru just fine and I am glad the 30 acres burned because it saved me a lot of clean up work.:thumbsup

Didn't they discover it was started by a kid playing with matches? :willy

Don't they drive metal rods into the ground when corners are marked down there? That's how it's done up here. If so, THOSE should be a snap to find on your own as you obviously must know (roughly at least) where your corners are.

That is correct. You should be able to find them with a metal detector. However the city/county may not go for that and the owner is the one that will suffer if a structure is built somewhere else other than where it was approved in the plans.

Can you just imagine Thom. Jefferson/Ben. Franklin/Sam Houston's reaction to some bureaucrat, "not going for that", back in the day?

Man. Has gov't gotten too big for it's britches. And we allowed it to happen.:frown

Makes me cry like a baby looking at those pictures.
Drove from Fresno to Modesto today, looked like a convoy of brave firefighters going back north. God Bless them all...
