OK.. so I read the rules.... The Ford GT are running 2010 specs vs 2009 GT1 cars... quite a difference. Here is a quote from Bas Leinders VDS Racing team:
1st ‘2010’ GT1 car : Bas Leinders – nr 40 Marc VDS Racing Team Ford GT :
“First of all I would like to thank our team owner Marc Van Der Straaten for giving us the possibility to race in GT1, to prepare a very nice and important project for 2010. We are really looking forward to that. We are really happy to be here, the preparation was very short for us, with just two short tests in Magny-Cours and Paul Ricard HTTT, but it is not going too badly. The car is quite different from the 2009 cars, we have 100 kg more, less power as we lack almost 20 km/h at the end of the straight, so there is quite a difference. So to qualify in the top ten, and maybe get some nice points tomorrow, would be nice. In the end, I always say it is four wheels and a steering wheel, so it doesn’t matter if it’s a Formula One or a Formula Ford, a Vertigo or even better a Ford GT, all you have to do it go to it, and that’s what we’ll do tomorrow.”

Both GT3 and GT1 races were entertaining. The FGTs were really unfortunate in the GT3 race.

The GT1 race also started bad for the home team with the Matech car starting at the back of the grid and the VDS car serving a stop and go penalty at lap 3 that put them back behind all the GT2 cars...

All in all they were clearly not as fast as the other GT1s, but faster than the 2010 spec GTR....

And the faster of the Ford GTs is the Silver one....

More pics later...

PS
one of the GT3 Ford GTs sustained considerable damage in a collision with a Porsche... Will upload pics later

Th GT3 race was more entertaining, with several cars on the same pace.

The Matech #2 GT was well placed at the beginning of the race, but was too aggressive at Luffield on lap 4 and lost 4-5 positions.

#1 GT was then racing for 3rd place and being held up by the red Viper for a long time. So he tried to squeeze in where there was not enough room and ended up taking the Viper out. #1 eventually had to pit.

#29's fate was not too good either and was taken out by a 997 RSR (see pic)

All in all I thing the FGTs have the pace to be up there in GT3.

For GT1 it is a little trickier... The Saleens and Maserati have the upper hand, but this is the last year and the Fords are running with the new specs which are quite restrictive.

All in all a good day at the track...

I watched the GT3 race on streaming video with a separate window on the live timing. Mutsch was a little too aggressive with the Viper - I think he'd have gotten by with a little more patience.

Clearly, #29 was running nicely until that Porsche shattered his whole rear clamshell and framework.

I had to leave for the vintage race at Reno-Fernley Raceway at 5 am before the GT1 race started, but glad to hear the boys held their own there.
