After changing the battery in the GT last weekend, I took her out for a little cruise. While stopped at a light, I saw a similarly colored new Ferrari California going in the opposite direction. When the driver took off, he opened it up quite a bit. To my shock, it sounded like a hopped up rice burner! As my teen age son would say, "Dude, WTF?!"
They can't possibly sound like that from the factory, can they? No Ferrari wail like ripping canvas, just a flatulent, high pitched snort? Ughhh.

I drove my friends California several years ago when the car was launched. While we were driving he got very excited when he told me to hammer it as he couldn't wait to see my response. I faked a "Wow this thing is fast" comment. It was a pig. Surprisingly slow and lacking in torque. I was really surprised.

Agreed!

There was one at a local car show last Saturday. I had been looking at them thinking it might be fun. It rolled in and sounded like an Impala. In person , without the galloping horse on the side you would never look at it. The exhausts really look odd. The best part was the brake calipers if that gives you an idea.

I was a bit crestfallen.

It should be an indication when it's namesake is the land of 'Fruits 'N' Nuts'.

Its targeted (I'm told) at Mercedes SL type clients.

Its actually quite fast if you look at the magazine numbers.

IMHO its fugly.

I drove one a few weeks ago, very unimpressed. Rode OK, wasn't as slow as a stock SL, sound was nothing special. I had driven out to the Island (LI) to meet a group of friends, I drove out in my 9 year old NSX, and like it much better than the Cali.

Thanks for the tip, a friend of mine has one. I have not seen it yet.

How can you trust the magazine numbers after that journalist exposed how Ferrari brings ringers (1 car for straight line and 1 car for handling) and teams of engineers to the test?

performance aside i have been tempted to get one for the wife lol...

Sweet looking car done up that way. But, I like 'la casa' FAR more!
