Great work DBK. Will this include stuff that has been archived? Believe it or not, I always enjoyed the lengthy diatribes by engineers about bolts and their characteristics. Perhaps a thread JUST for engineers (you know, the extra long kind)?

License plates? To avoid duplicates?

Yeah, there's some really old stuff in there back from the beginning in 05-06. I culled alot of the chit chatter out of the original threads so it's pretty much all relevant to the topic.

Dave - looks like a huge undertaking to do this. It will serve a wonderful resource for us GT owners. Double for those of us with two. THANKS man.

This is a great idea, but a lot of work for you guys. My hats off to all the Forum workers.

You might want to add a thread related to the Clutches in the cars, ie. that they just "feel" diferent than what most people have driven in the past, the danger in 3rd gear starts, etc. When I first got my GT, I spent hours searching the Forum to find threads that ended up giving me a much higher level of confidence in my car, once I learned that I was not alone and found that many of my cars traits were "normal" for these GT's.

I like the idea of a mods section. I've seen numerous things that Shadowman and others have done that would be cool compiled.

Maybe change the Title names instead

DBK,

Instead of going through all the work of creating a new location for this info, wouldn't it be easier just to go back and change the Title line of some of these threads, so the search function would work better? Many threads have Titles like "I have a question" or "New Owner" which are useless during a search.

I noticed when I've used the search function, I've wasted a lot of time reading many threads that are not useful and may only have one word or a single sentence in a long thread that mentions the search word once but isn't really about the item you are searching and provides nothing useful. Going back and changing some of the Title lines would help.

Another option, if someone has a lot of extra time on their hands, they could also just take excerpts out of pertinant threads and compile them into one more useful thread on a particular subject like the subjects that you and other have listed.

Just my $0.02

Jer, that's exactly what I'm doing. Compiling posts from pertinent threads and then copying to a new thread with an easily recognizable title.

The fact of the matter is, people choose not to use the search function, despite prodding. Lots do, but some don't, and they start redundant threads that make it even harder to find the relevant info, just like you mention. We've already got almost a couple hundred thousand posts, so at this point, fighting to make the utility of the search better by changing titles is just as time consuming as copy and pasting threads.

I'm happy to do it, and we'll make it mandatory that that's the first section you see eventually as a new registrant (or certain old ones :lol ).

DBK,

As others have already said, you're one hell of a man to take on this huge effort and a super enthusiast. It definitely will be a huge help to most of us. Please let me thank you in advance.

Because of this site, I avoided a possible disaster by letting our local Ford dealer change my oil. The supposedly specially trained GT tech overfilled my oil and then was syphoning out the excess when I asked him what he was doing. He said this has happened the last 3 oil changes. When I asked if he had removed all 3 drain plugs, he went to his computer to look it up and appoligized. They gave me another oil change and filter free of charge a week later since they didn't have time to re-do it the same day. The next time I printed out the instructions on this site about holding the gas peddle to the floor, etc. which he used.

This dealership doesn't let you watch their mechanic. I probably won't let them work on my car again unless it's warrantee work because of this no-seeum policy that they blame on insurance coverage. After being told about the insurance, I stood outside the garage and attempted to watch and they closed the garage door to obscure my observations on a 90 degree temperature day with no A/C in the garage. I may even do the warrantee work myself in the future if it will still be covered.

Documentation

I'd like to see a Documentation section, with sub-categories like:

Manuals
Installation Instructions
Labels & Stickers
Sales Literature
SAE Papers
License Plate Compilation
Catalogs
Paint Codes

Basically, any original (or revised) documentation which is available in a digital document.

How to gain access to Bonyland???

Seriously though, this is a very cool idea. I visit ALOT of different forums and I think this is the first one I've seen where the owner of the forum is such an avid enthusiast. Unfortunately most of the forums I visit these days are owned by some company that runs thousand's of other sites. Something like this would never even be considered.

Great Idea Dave, Thanks! You will need to come up with a tread to show us "search-handicapped" how to use it.
