Anyone have a a used set of f1 goodyears with some tread. I need to pass a safety and Hoosier puts for competition only on the tire which has caused problems for me. Might need to slap on a pair of f1s temporarily to pass the safety.

Don,

I'm home on Wed. Give me a call, we might be able to work something out when I'm home.

Why do you need to pass a safety? The car's not old enough to need one yet. Anyway, I'm home on Wed, so call maybe Thurs or Fri. Local, so nice and easy.

Cheers

safety

I leased a portion of the GT "to throw a bone" to the dealership. Car is off lease and I bought it out which triggers a safety. Problem is the dealership decided the tires are not street legal and failed the safety. Need to slap a pair on and get the car through the safety to get it liscenced. I always thought that DOT= street legal.

Hoosier will not support use of r6 for street or highway use. Spoke to them directly. Official position is they are track only tires.

IMHO that is done for libility reasons. To get DOT approval means the tire meets US gov. standards for use on public roads.

U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.

Ah - but what about Canadian regulations? :confused

Canadian regulations accept DOT.
Traffic act also accepts tires.
Problem in there is a clause that stated if a tire states "not for highway use" or something implying this makes the tire is illegal. "competition only" on the Hoosier is what does the tire in.

If that done with raised lettering, a dremel sanding disc could take care of that! Recessed lettering, maybe some black RTV fill in with some dirt over the top to camouflage it.

Just a note to say thanks.
This forum is incredible. I have had some great advice and selfless offers for help. Not only on this issue but others as well.
In the end I ordered some re05 bridgestones (HHGT's post influenced this). The dunlop direzza sounds like an incredible tire that would fill the bill. Unfortunately no rear tire fit. Too bad for us.
