The Whipple is going this week would be nice if anyone had a base tune they could e-mail me. I have a 21psi pulley but at a mile high prob. see 18psi. i have an SCT tuner. Would love it if some already had a tune that we could use as a base tune. Then tune from there for a mile high. Thanks!

Certainly Whipple offers a tune as an option with their package however as stated by Bony most if not all of the other Forum vendors have their own version of a base tune too.

FYI; Whipple uses the Diablo device to port the program into your gal however most others use the SCT device.

In the end most of the base tunes will be fine if all you want is a starting point

Thanks Shadowman. Is there a way to find out which tune is loaded on the GT? Do you have an upgraded tune and how do you handle all the A/F ratios etc. for the different cars? BTW, I also have the Accufab T/B that was installed as part of the kit.

Well, shoot, Bony! There's only one possible source for yur Levi pblm. Yer wallet. That's located in your back pocket. Simply reach back there and extract it.

No thanks necessary...

I was able to get a base tune from MMP, being as I bought my whipple kit from them. Mind you I had to get Jack convince their tuning guy I wasn't somehow going to start profiting here in Oz(amongst the thriving community of all 9 GTs) from re-selling their tune before he'd agree to give the base file to my local tuner -LOL!

Sam, you have the base tune supplied by Whipple via the Diablo programmer. If you look at the Diablo programmer (plug it in to the OBDII to turn it on), you may be able to see if Whipple marked the tune with a version number.

I sent you a PM because some of the questions asked require more than a quick answer.

However; here is what I can share; all 4000 plus Ford GT's were delivered with the same tune. Does this mean that that the tune was optimized for your gal; “NO”

In fact a typical chain of event would be that during development all ends of the proverbial performance envelope are experienced and then it is based on the collection of data that a baseline tune is created that is sufficient for all of the gals.

This is why many folks with their gal in OEM trim will find that a custom tune can produce a better performing gal because no two gal’s are alike; meaning each engine etc. has a little different character. Now add to this when in OEM trim the process called adaptation is turned on as such the PCM is constantly retuning your gal within the spread built that is factored into the software however when a custom turn is installed for a Whipple, a smaller pulley, and likely the TT gals this feature is typically turned off as such you now have the following;

1. Closed loop operation during which time the O2 sensors and the PCM continue to communicate maintaining a lean best operation and then when you press on the go pedal and the gal goes into open loop (no longer O2 dependent) fixed fuel and timing maps come into play.

2. Most tunes that are offered for the Whipple, a pulley, as well as the TT gals are not optimized for that particular gal but rather a program that was created as the result of data collected over time from many gals as such a quality tune is a living entity; or I should say IMO this is a component of a quality tune. Then add to this the only way to truly optimize a tune for your gal in on a "LOAD" dyno and not on a typical dyno designed for WOT pulls. The later are interesting but do little to tell the whole story; I refer to these as lapel pin dyno's.

the timing of this thread is perfect. I've had my Whipple now for awhile with a baseline tune installed by Rich Brooks (Stage 6 he said..but the stage 6 guy told me he doesn't do canned tunes..?)...but never had my tune optimized for my gal. Now that I have her in CA where there are a lot more reputable tuners familiar with the GT. I'd like to have her done right. So I have 2 questions.

1.) do I need to have my sct with the tune thats in my car now? (I left it in NY but am going there in August)
2.) Any opinions as to who I should take her to near the L.A. area?

appreciate it!

Hi Somlee

I am very familar with the tune in your gal as such I welcome your call or email any time.

FYI; the tune did not come through Stage 6 but rather HP Performance aka TonY G. The association to Stage 6 is because at one time TonY G did tuning for them with specific reference being the TT of Joe's a couple years ago.
