I am original owner and drove to 1st meet in Detroit in 2006 (unfortunately i have not been able to make one since but hope to in the future). I have owned 3 vintage ferraris and have been to many national meets. After the GT meet in Detroit I lost my enthusiasm for the Ferrari scene (i have since sold all three).. Most own Ferraris to say they own them without really understanding them. The Ford group are vastly different: beer drinkers in blue jeans and truly passionate about their cars and what they represent!! Gt owners really come from diverse and very interesting backrounds and usually "self-made". I am always amazed about the input from owners on solving problems and coming up with new ideas and cool accessories!! This forum is "the best"!!

There is something extraordinary in the fact that it's "just a Ford." I'm sure I am not alone in saying that I would have never spent such an extravagant amount of money on any other car. In that regard, the Ford marketers had me all figured out, because no other manufacturer could have possibly sold me such an expensive toy.

I was a mechanic at a Ford Dealership when Shelby's, Ford GT's and AC Cobras were old used cars and the Mustang Cobra II was hot. I drove a 1967 GT 500 that was a trade-in at the dealership in 1975 -- really nothing more than a 7 year old used car that ran hot and had no AC. I became a car guy then but I screwed up my demographic by deciding later to go to college. The law practice has been good to me but my main interest is anything with an engine that I can take apart. At the end of the day if my grandkids forget that I was a lawyer but remember me as a great mechanic that is ok with me.

mine has the 302. a whole whopping 140 hp. i could pull 6 plug wires off my gt and still have more power. lol

Not counting myself as one but having the pleasure of meeting quite a few, I can say with confidence that GT owners are the nicest guys you'll ever meet. They're humble and extremely cool at the same time.

The members of this forum are without doubt an amazing group of first class folks. People have gone way out of their way to accommodate my questions, my stopping by to see their cars (half way across the country), and its most amazing how well everyone seems to fit IN even as there is a wide range of ages, occupations, and interests.

No way, Roketman. There's a No-Fire Area around all GTs!

I really wish I could have made it to this year's rally. Unfortunately taking a trip to New Orleans just wasn't in the cards. There were too many things going on at work.
