Can anyone recommend a Ford dealer in the San Francisco Bay Area to have the retaining bolts replaced under the current recall? Thank you.

I have an appointment for 10 am tomorrow, Tuesday, at Walnut Creek Ford to have the axle bolts replaced. Sean, the GT mechanic has done this job several times so is aware of what to do. I do have pictures to show him that were posted on the Forum on things to watch out for, such as removing any and all Loctite that accumulated in the holes, proper torque, and saving the old parts for my inspection. I will watch the entire operation and let you know how it goes.

Thanks Gary, I will look forward to hearing how it goes. Since it is a big job, I want to make sure that I take it to a dealer that has worked on a FGT before and knows what they are doing.

Serramonte Ford in Colma is also good. They have taken care of my tune-ups & bolt swap without problems.

I would highly recommend Harrold Ford in Sacramento. I know it's 90 miles away but the owner, Dave Hellinge, is awesome & a true gear head. He owns & drives 2 FGTs along with many other cool cars. He sold 7 GTs & has worked on over 20 different GTs. He has one tech & bay set up for the GTs & no one but he will drive your GT! Dave & his tech, both personally, replace my half shaft bolts. Instead of charging a GT premium he usually gives the GT owners a break. Too kind.

PS If you need to borrow a car while waiting on your GT I can help you with a loaner.

Sean at Walnut Creek Ford replaced the bolts on my GT about six weeks ago. They were broken on the left side. This was the first time that he had seen broken bolts. I have photos of the work and he was great at letting me know what he was doing. I would recommend them. Sean seems to know the car pretty well.

Best wishes.

Frontier Ford on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara. The tech has all the fiberglass tools so the bolts don't show any marks. Ask for Mike Babcock service advisor

Harrold Ford rocks!

Ask the dealer is he owns a FGT. Than ask if he will don coveralls & get his hands dirty! Dave at Harrold Ford is a rare dealer.

Thanks to all of you. I am glad to hear that there are some dealers in this area that know what they are doing. I really appreciate your help.

Hope to meet some of you in person sometime.

Hey Ernie,

Just returned home after having my GT worked on by Shawn at Walnut Creek Ford. It took him exactly 2 hours to replace the axle bolts. He allowed me to watch and returned all parts to me. My bolts and washer were in pristine condition. No warping of the black washers, and no distortion of the bolts. This is exactly what was done. The car was positioned on a single, middle post lift, and the tires were raised about 2 inches off the floor. He lifted the clamshell and removed the air filter box. He removed the 6 torque to fit bolts from the flange and then carefully removed the two bolts from the axle. They came out with no problem. There was no Loctite on the threads of the axle bolts. He siliconed the new washer and installed it with the new bolts. He then used the new torque to fit bolts for the flange. He did the other side the same way, and was done. Hope this helps.

Gunnar - You are welcome to join the Norcal GT Owners in our group drive to Rally III in September. We'll leave from Sacramento, maybe from Harrold Ford, & take the 2 lane route through Northern Nevada south to Vegas. We'll probably take I-5 on the return drive.

I too have have experienced very high quality work at Frontier. They have serviced the car since new including a full R&R of the transaxle. Not only do they have the expertise, but no collateral damage whatsoever. They also just replaced the bolts, without me even having to ask. Mike just ordered them while i had the car in for other reasons.
