Has anyone figured out a way to get the front parking lights to come on all the time as if they were driving lights? I realize I could turn them on, but don't want the dash lights and the tail lights to come on. Any ideas? Pros or cons?

I don't have an answer, but almost all of my driving is during daylight and always run with both the parking and fog lights on - mostly because IMO it looks so cool and also for safety. :cheers

Turning the headlights on during the day (to make yourself more visible) is a good idea... besides it's fun to play with those toggle switches :biggrin

I think they're mandatory in Canada, maybe they have an idea.

Even more fun with Jay's "nuclear blue" light that comes on when you turn on your lights. Since Jay is located only a couple miles from the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant, I think may have "borrowed" something from them to get the color of the light just right.

We need to have some of the Canada guys pipe in but I seem to remember talking to someone from Canada at Rally II and many in Canada were turning theirs off. They didn't like them but also the type of lights we have were causing the headlight covers to crack from prolonged heat

I run the Parking lights & Fog lights during the day. I like to keep the hours down on the HID's cause they'll be expensive to replace..:ack

A word of caution

Yes the running lights remain on the GT's as delivered in Canada however many have had this feature disabled because the excessive heat build up caused numerous failures aka the headlight lens crack.

Canadian cars

For the Canadian spec cars the daytime running lights applies to the complete system. When the key is in the on position all (except fog) lights come on. The only thing the headlight switch does is turn on and off the dash lights when the car is on and when the car is off the switch performs normally.
No problems to report with cracking on mine however I only have a little over 3000 on the clock.

:cheers

The hids should not have a problem with being on during day driving. New Gt500s have a hid headlight option and can be programed for a daytime running lamp feature. I have replaced headlights in GTs with small cracks in them unrelated to the lights on all the time. Incandescent headlights with daytime running lights are often run at lower voltages to dim the light and keep heat down, but not an option with hid. I think the fog lights on as d.r.l. would look good and would be a simple wiring upgrade if someone wanted them.

I rarely share that which I cannot confirm however in this case that which I shared came to me from the GT Master Tech Mike @ Polito Ford.

He spends time on this forum so maybe he will chime in on this subject. As I recall he said that he has replaced several sets and now the practice has been to turn them off based on customer request because even after replacing some (without turning the day time light feature off) the replacements cracked.

It is true that there seems to be a lot of headlight replacements being done. I have changed a few sets for cracking problems, but do not feel that it is related to hid temps. If it were me i would like to see the fog lights on instead of the headlights at all times. It is interesting to see what the headlight lens temps. reach after the hids are on for a while. I have 2 Gts at work now i will get temp readings from just to see.

I can confirm what Shadowman has stated. I also have the daytime lights off up here in Canada as suggested by Mike at Polito Ford because of lens cracking problem. It seems to me that the full headlight system is on up here not a lower voltage/amperage going to the headlights.
I agree looks very cool also with the fogs on. But not worth the hassle.

Well...with these responses, is there an indication of threshold before they crack? Say 2 continuous hours? 3 continuous hours?
