My Deltran battery Tender Plus is on its last leg, Wanted to try something different this time around. I went to the CTEK website to make a selection and now my head hurts. Which CTEk charger is best suited for the FGT, still on the OEM Optima battery which I suspect its going to need replacement pretty soon, not 100% sure what the replacement is going to be as Sears' Die Hard is no longer available. (I have Kendall's "quick" connect/disconnect kit installed). Thanks !

Any of the 3 amp chargers are fine, with or without reconditioning. I have several different styles, but the ones that have the reconditioning feature will NOT charge a fully dead battery, so beware.

I'm on my OEM original Optima Red Top - 10-11 years old and working perfectly.

This one will be perfect for you and will restore a completely dead battery should you ever have that issue. I have 5 of these:

I have a half a dozen Deltrans for all my regular batteries, including the GT. They do the job for me. But did get CTEK this fall for an M3 that I have with a Lithium ion battery, it worked, no drama.

I've resurrected both Optimas and standard batteries with this -

If the battery is run down (below 6 volts), sometimes I have to jump it with a fresh battery until the charger can get hold of it - has both regular and agm charging modes.

I changed my original ('06) battery last year as a preventive measure, along with the original in my wife's '02 T-Bird. Both were functioning fine, but I figure they were really getting to the high end of the curve.

I replaced both with OEM batteries from Ford. Pressing a little got the prices to be competitive with other options. Just beware the manufacture date of the battery. I sent one back because it had been sitting for a while. They replaced it with one from the current year.

I've used the $4.99 Harbor Freight charger on my Viper for 10 years, no problems. On the GT I use the GT charger, again no problems.

Yep, every day folks are unwittingly buying tires that are 5-8 years old. Always ask the dates.

For those with older cars with the front grille and the front charger port, can you describe how you're routing the wires from the battery compartment to the front of the grille? I've read that dropping the front splitter is necessary to accomplish this??

I've routed my wiring to exit at the hood grill, not the front grill. No splitter removal necessary.

Thanks Howard. However, I don't think I'll be going that route:

Forget the hassle of all this charger port stuff.

Use the cigarette-attachment route;no bending down to find port; no non-oem wiring; grounded; sealed in cabin from water, grit; safe, period.

Use the OEM charger; route wire under drivers door through slit in rubber door-seal. Door closes perfectly; wire is held flat by rubber and drops to floor and 20ft of cord to small wall receptacle. 10yrs of on 24/7/365 use with no problems.

FYI - there is even a Euro Powerlet adapter for batter tender.

You can use it on ATVs / Motorcyles (BMW, Ducati, Triumph, Vinctory) or some vintage german cars with aux. lamp ports under hood. I have one on my '68 SL

CTEK makes a cig adapter as well.
http://smartercharger.com/products/accessories-cat/ctek-comfort-connect-cig-plug/

Well, unless I get a relatively simple answer to the front mounting question, I may just get the cig adapter and call it a day.

But you probably don't want to drill a hole through the cap on the non-functioning brake duct.

I like it because if I forget to unplug it, it just comes out without any damage to the car.

Using a Ctek now after 2 Battery tenders have died! My OEM charger has never been out of the box.
