Nardo, grasshopper, no, it was the magnesium roof of the Z06. Dealers had a tendency to crack the windshield while performing the TSB.

Sorry Frank, but you're not quite there....the recall was on all 2006 and many 2007 C6's, Z06 or targa. It had nothing to do with the magnesium roof frame, but rather the SMC body colored panel bonded to it.

I avoided the recall on my pristine low mile 2006 Z (took delivery after watching it being built at the factory) until the damn thing actually did separate.

I highly recommend the Z....with better tires, seats, a cam and a tune...it is damn near a perfect daily drivable sports car.

Muchos gracias V8. I'm not a Corvette guy, but have friends with them and listened to them bitch about broken windshields.

Had a couple '07 Z06's. The '07 had some improvements over the '06 which escape me at the moment. In controlled environments, my stock Z06 out accelerated my stock '05 FGT side by side in every gear. The FGT had about 519 RWHP and always felt faster except when the cars were side by side. The Vette was fun and fast and safe with traction control. :cheers

The '07 didn't change much, other than a different roof panel, more sound deadening, and optional steering wheel stereo controls. Bigger changes came in '08, with a new transmission, redesigned center stack, and more power for the base car.

I have a Katech 650hp Z06. Its a FANTASTIC car. I probably doubled the $ in parts but it will kick the snot out of my F40 without even trying all the while w a great AC, Nav, iPod stereo. I think she wouldnt have much trouble munching an Enzo either :biggrin I'd buy another Z06 in a heartbeat.

The stock interior sux so I had Caravaggio redo the whole thing, I modeled it on a late model AM

Besides the 650hp & interior it has Moton shocks, Brembo big brake kit, C6R wing, diffuser, RPM trans & diff

I had my roof blow off on an off ramp, I guess whoever it landed on was pretty surprised, I think that was after doing 172mph on the Miami Mile. I had it replaced w a ZR1 cf roof, no biggie

Anyone have real time experience with owning a Z06 from these years? Can you recommend it and are there options that are just "Must have"?

Would the smaller 6.0 be better suiter for daily driving when considering fuel cost and maintenance + the option of getting automatic transmission?

There are tons of aftermarket mods for Vettes, since I love project cars thats a big attraction for me. Finding aftermarket parts for Ferraris is pretty rare and very pricey :frown

As for must haves I'd HIGHLY suggest a pair of Caravaggio seats, much more comfy & better looking than stock and gives you more leg room too. After that its just a matter of how radical you want to get. There are Z06s w well over 1000hp :devil and since parts are cheap compared to exotics its easy to put them back together

The Z has a great trans too, It took 60,000 miles including 2 years of hard track work to finally kill mine but I swapped it for a full race RPM trans for only $2500 :biggrin Got to love that:lol

Back when it was stock I could cruise in 6th at 85mph and see 20mpg or better all day long

W 650hp my cruising is down to 16mpg but still better than lower hp Ferraris

Get the Z, you wont be sorry:cheers
