I totally understand if Dave decides to move or delete this thread.

I just wanted to get some thoughts from those much smarter than me - uh, that's most of you.

Regarding the $1,000/person that our Government is in process of approving.... Undoubtedly there will be some clip level and maybe I won't have to worry, but I don't feel right if any of that comes my way. There are people in FAR greater need than me. I hope many/most of you feel the same way. The question is what to do with it. While I don't feel deserving - I'd like it to get into the hands of those that need it the most. What are your ideas? Should we pool it and let smart people like Dave or Chip put it all to one place? Should I just go give the local doughnut shop a $999 tip? (His business is already feeling a severe impact as no one is going to work and stopping to bring doughnuts.) No sir, I couldn't live with myself for taking it and would much rather see it in someone else's hands. Wondering how many of you feel the same and have given any thought to where it can/should go?

Please, don't pool it. Donate it locally. There are plenty of worthy charities that can better put the money to use locally!

Check your school district. Ours is continuing the lunch program with no strings attached. Not just for children - adults can get meals too, the only requirement is that a school aged child must be part of the group. If the payout happens that is where ours will go. What they are doing is very much like they did during our 2013 flood - anyone could get breakfast and lunch, pay if you could otherwise free. I gave quite a bit in their little pails. Things are going to get pretty tough here. All casinos are shut down for 30 days.

The key is to send the money close to your home!

PS. Another good place would be a local meals-on-wheels program.

How about an animal shelter? Food bank? Homeless? Personally I thought of giving it to a reliable Veteran clinic and let the 1K go to people that cannot afford things for their animals.

Just some thoughts. If you give it to anybody, make sure they will use it correctly, and any association make sure 100% goes to a good cause.

Also agreed. We were sitting around the office today thinking the same exact thing, if any of the money comes our way it will donated.

Hmmm 1K sure would buy a big bunch of Girl Scout cookies 😯

Kendall, I agree with above contributors, that being support a local need. But in all likelihood most Forum members may be excluded due to some threshold testing.

I do want to thank you for the laugh! 😂

Should we pool it and let smart people like Dave or Chip put it all to one place?

Will not be an issue for most. Like SS, it will be "means tested" based on AGI.
The "1000.00 check " goes to $Zero for single filers at $99,000 and married filing jointly at $199,000 based on your 2018 1040.

This is the quite likely the best non-political political thread I've seen.

Don't worry Randy - you can always count on people to ruin everything!

For people that have a hard time reading or remembering:

You want to piss and moan about politics, go do it on Facebook or in the comments section of Yahoo articles.
