Clunk?

A/C

this A/C clunk just recently started happening to me. Is this something we need to have looked at? I'd hate for my A/C to go out on me in the desert going to the rally. Shadowman? Rich? anyone?

thanks

Clunk

After reading all of the posts it sounds like the A/C. Like most Fords the compressor will still cycle with the button off if the blend door is set to defrost also.

I think this is one of the neat things about this car and us having the motor resting right behind us. My AC compressor has always made the clunk since day one but only on cold restart when the clutch engages for the first time.

I have always chalked it up the GT owner experience. :thumbsup

yeah it happens to me when I turn on the A/C ...never did it before. And it doesn't matter if I'm parked or driving. I guess I'll just assume all is ok. Maybe I should get a cool suit just in case! :biggrin

A thud or deep clunk with first start is normal. Like I said it is the liqued freon being forced out of the manifold line. If it is just a click sound when the air is first turned on
that is the sound of the compresor clutch being pulled in to the pully. Also normal. If you are hearing noise from the dash area then that is different. I have had a few cars with mode door and blend door problems causing noise.

I haven't had this occur on my car, but was wondering if it might also be an electrical effect (Is there a high current relay?) associated with turning on the radiator fans? Just a thought....

I saw an article of a guy retrofitting fans into his 1973 Maserati Bora, and he had to replace the alternator due to the higher current required by the replacement fans.
