Clamshell Spring Stops/Openers

I have a 2005 GT and would like to install the late 2006 spring clamshell stops. Anybody know the part number? I understand these were used on the 2000's Thunderbirds for something. I borrowed this picture of the stop from another post.

I need a set of them as well. I have gone through numerous new rubber boots which do not appear to be the same as you pictured. The flat looking ones seem to deteriorate and crack every year.

You have a couple of options for the top plastic piece for about $2.00. Both mentioned on this forum.
1) The grommet shown in the pic above, probably from Lowes.
2) A nylon insert from lowes, see pic.

You graciously did! They are already cracked and falling through the top coil. Maybe it's lack of humidity here

Put a dab of clear grease or mercury grease, I call it....No squeaks, no creaks and should not blow part as fast.....

6G7Z-6343128-A - Shown for the 2006 GT, about $16.
XR3Z-6343128-AA - Shown for 1999-2004 Mustang, about $12. This looks similar to the GT spring, but it also includes a bottom clip not needed on the GT. Maybe has one more spring turn.

You can buy the cheapest ones you can find and then it's easy to remove the button from the top and wind it into the original springs.

So my clamshell springs (6G7Z-6343128-A) arrived with no attaching nuts. What is the proper way to attach? Does the factory nutsert stay in place on the mounting bracket?

Yes, they fit right through the existing threads. Use an M6 flange nut - we prefer stainless.

I moved this update from a different maybe incorrect thread.

So....I installed NEW FORD OEM 2006 spring openers 6G7Z-6343128-A on my 2005 GT this past winter. The rubber is already deteriorating, see pic. They seemed to be in great shape until a few heat cool cycles. When warm, the rubber is soft and covered in a greasy coating. When cool, it is like an old hard rubber. It is already cracking.
I went to Lowes and got a couple of options to replace the rubber. One is a rubber grommet, the other is a nylon hole plug, both fit very well. I think both of these were mentioned by others on the forum. See pics. I am trying the rubber grommet first, see how it goes. If it has problems, I will switch to the nylon hole plug.

Quite the dilema on a delivery mileage car. Replace it with OEM that will crumble after a few heat/cool cycles or not-OEM.

I bought both of these, and since High HP installed the grommet, I decided to try the hole plug. It snapped in easily enough, but is not fully flush.....but not bad so I'll use them for awhile and will report back if they don't work out.

Why not just replace with the 06 stops; or maybe I am missing something. I have had the originals without any issues.

I replaced mine a few years back and they are shot again. Need new ones.
