I burned through my last pair of spring caps.

Any one know if there is a replacement out there?

Ditto, same problem.

No way those pieces were going to last 16 or more years. Probably an Escort part to begin with.

Going to look at big box auto stores to see if there is something to do the trick, perhaps with modifications.

I haven't tried, but I don't think Ford would have just the cap? Maybe a pleasant surprise? I'm sure whatever "whole" piece or assembly Ford might sell you would cost a fortune.

The spring and cap is a 99-04 Mustang or last gen T-bird part, Ford 6G7Z 6343128-A . You can buy the assembly (much less expensive than a GT part) and unscrew the cap and reinstall it on the existing spring.

There is a post on these caps available at Lowes……Cosmetically they look good and inexpensive to replace.FB6B311A-41C2-4519-A772-1FBCCEADB71F.jpeg

I moved this update from a different maybe incorrect thread.

So....I installed NEW FORD OEM 2006 spring openers 6G7Z-6343128-A on my 2005 GT this past winter. The rubber is already deteriorating, see pic. They seemed to be in great shape until a few heat cool cycles. When warm, the rubber is soft and covered in a greasy coating. When cool, it is like an old hard rubber. It is already cracking.
I went to Lowes and got a couple of options to replace the rubber. One is a rubber grommet, the other is a nylon hole plug, both fit very well. I think both of these were mentioned by others on the forum. See pics. I am trying the rubber grommet first, see how it goes. If it has problems, I will switch to the nylon hole plug.

Here are the Lowes options.

Maybe I can have my machinist friend make duplicate caps out of ABS plastic.
