I ALWAYS gently lift at the front of the rear wheel opening on both sides after thinking I have closed the clamshell.

That is exactly what the pros do in checking. Takes a few extra seconds and worth the effort.

Mark,
That would be great video !!
I find the behind the scene stories fascinating . Some should write a book ,before they all get lost.

Jeff Walsh (kiwi) was doing the driving, I (American) was in the passenger seat pulling the clamshell latch at our APG VDA. We started at 50 mph and just kept upping the speed. We stopped at 120 mph as the rear started to get light. It is more dramatic if the clamshell is latch first and then open at speed (not recommended). Did the test severial times with no issues. Latches held up well.

I am sure you didn't want to try that test while doing 212 at Nardo! Getting light would be understatement!

At least you would only have to replace that inexpensive clamshell if it did come completely open (Ha Ha!).

It may also damage the rear of the car as the hinges or clamshell breaks and flys off. I would say it would cost more than a few bucks.
