Does anyone know of a qualified Ford dealer in the Cincinnati area that can replace the half shaft bolts on my GT? The warranty replacement was never done. The car has also NEVER had an oil change. Need that done too. I tried Beechmont and Northgate and neither could help.

If not Cincinnati, maybe Indy? If not a dealer, maybe a quality shop?

Thanks in advance.

I have a friend in Cinci and he mentioned Beechmont Ford. Owner has a GT, and the shop works on a few of them in town. There is also an indy guy in town that does work on a local GT40. Can get you that name as well.

Forgive me but I thought all this was hashed out in your earlier post..??

Do you have some reluctance to taking the advice of those here on the Forum or are you just bore sighted on having some mechanic at a FORD dealership fix your axle bolts?

You drove your car 100 miles the first day you received the car. From Cincinnati that is half way to the GT Guys shop. If your axle bolts do fail (and the failure is only time related) it will render the car undriveable wherever they fail. Then you will have to contend with towing by someone who may (or may not) do further damage because towing requires extra care. I would certainly recommend this fix be done immediately before this dulls your ownership enthusiam.

Axle bolts are easy, but given no oil change in almost a decade, you really need a thorough service by someone very experienced with GTs. ALL fluids! Oil pump drive belt inspection and possibly replacement.

Changing the coolant on a mid-engine car is not something every mechanic knows how to do properly.

Brake and clutch fluid could be unsafe by now.

Tires more than six years old may be unsafe.

All of this is routine service and, if you can make an appointment with the GT Guys (who I know have a lot of work), you could wait while the work is done (assuming no issues). And, you'd meet two great guys and learn a lot about your car.

:agree:

Schedule an appointment with the GT Guys, call Rich at (734) 658-9498, and have them perform a full service on the car. Understanding the condition and age, it sounds like there has been no service on the car since it left the factory. For that reason alone, I would get it to Rich and Denis as soon as they can schedule you in.

Change all fluids - engine oil and filter, transaxle fluid (clean screen), coolants (engine and intercooler), brake and clutch fluids

Change the oil pump belt, check the supercharger belts for set, replace the fuel filter.

Install Accufab transaxle halfshaft bolts.

Examine the tires (they may be 10 years old)

Good luck!

Don't be so subtle! I guess I will be making an appointment with the GT Guys. Yes, I was bore sighted on having a local dealership do it. 3 kids under 10 and a company to run makes a jaunt to Detroit tough. I see the error in my thinking. Thanks for the advice.

If you can't get it there have it transported. Easy money to spend.

Good for you :thumbsup

If you want to establish a local dealer for later minor servicing - that's a good idea. But, owing to the lack of service in its past, I'd surely want the GT Guys to perform a full service, as they may find some other odd peculiarity, which you'd be extremely grateful for. Since you're so close to them, try for a Monday morning...drive up on Sunday and spend the night - the Best Western Woodhaven Inn or the Holiday Inn Express in Woodhaven are a stone's throw from their facility.

Good to hear!

Glad to have new owners joining us here on the Forum. There are many who have been here for years and most all of the identified issues (and they are minor for a supercar) have been experienced and discussed in these threads.

I am relatively close to the GT Guys (about the same as you) and have had my car up to them several times (as well as maintenance during rallys). I would not recommend them if they were not the best in our area. Money well spent. But when you get an owner (Ralphie) in California recommending their services, (they just provided necessary services on his car) that should say quite a bit about the recommendation.:thumbsup
