Car Repairs and Road Side Assistance

Wanted to share this story so that everyone is aware. My car was in the shop the past month with multiple hydraulic leaks. I live in the Bay Area CA and had to go about 75 miles to the nearest service center. When driving it back tonight, about 10 miles away from home, there was a massive clanking in the rear end (don't know what it is, but that's a separate issue). I immediately pulled over. I called the concierge but they were closed and my call got routed to the roadside assistance where they routed me around, "dropped my calls" etc--they didn't know how to get my car home because it can't be towed or flatbedded per Ford. After two hours on the side of the freeway and getting the go round, I limped the car home at 15 mph--not fun. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but beware driving the car farther away from home during non-Concierge hours as it can be a risky proposition, at least based on my experience today. Fortunately, i was able to get home safely and didn't have to leave the car stranded. I'll report back tomorrow after I hear what the concierge team has to say and next steps.

Wow, that’s disappointing. I’m sure Ford will solve the Mechanical problems but the service link certainly failed. Glad you and your GT got home safely. keep us abreast of what happens next.

The Concierge is definitely not 24-7. The other key thing to know here, is that Ford is explicit to never put these cars on a tow truck or flat bed because it can crack the carbon fiber tub and it's game over. This morning Ford dispatched the wrong type of truck so I'm stuck waiting for the Ford GT authorized dealership to open. It poses an interesting dilemma; it's late night after dealerships are closed and the GT concierge is closed and you are stranded on the side of the road-- do you 1) take the risk of ruining your car by putting it on a flat bed or 2) leave it on the side of the road until either the GT concierge opens or your authorized Ford GT dealership opens. Neither is a great choice, especially when it's Friday night, as it was for me. Leads you to only driving when you're either close home, have your own trailer and close by, when concierge or dealership is open, or you have a friend with a trailer. When the concierge opens on Monday I'll let you know what they say.

I'm sorry to hear about your car and not being able to be towed.......if I remember correctly when we first signed on to the Ford GT program the concierge was to contact a servicing dealer to have the car properly towed back to a servicing dealer.........this is why one of the requirements for a servicing dealer was to buy an enclosed trailer with certain specifications. I know at our dealership we have a plan in place to be able to provide this service 24/7. My hope is that Ford can make this right for you and hope this doesn't affect you ownership experience.

Hi Jiminee. I am also in the bay area (Tiburon) I was at Ford Fairfield yesterday getting my oil changed. They are a certified dealer and I know the Owner and GM well. They have worked on several GT's with extensive damage/issues and their GT tech Sean is well versed. Where are you located that your closest dealer is 75 miles? Personally I do not see any reason that a qualified and careful flatbed tow is ANY different than the Ford dealer winching your car into the trailer they were required to buy. The car is subject to the same "bouncing" in the enclosed trailer that it will experience on a flatbed. Provided the proper restraints are used the car can't tell the difference whether its enclosed or not! While it's too late for you now I hope this all works out and would recommend Ford of Fairfield if they are closer than the 75 miles from where you are..

I remember well what Ford promised in terms of service, including special trailers, specially trained technicians, specific treatment areas, etc. In France ( Paris ), we have none of that.

I almost had same situation today (best part was being watched by lots of people being jumped off by a 1957 Dodge Coronet !!! ) Sort of embarrassing- lots of Ford jokes being thrown about
Drove car to downtown Kilgore here to a cruise in - was there couple hours and when time to leave car would not start
Dash would light up and you would hear all the things cycling like always when pushing start button but nothing would happen (called and spoke to my delivery specialist and he suggested several things which I tried ) but nothing
Hooked up jumper cables and it fired right up !! Took off for home as it seemed to be running a little erratic
Made it about two miles and it died at first stop sign - luckily I was able to get my brother on cell phone and he was there pretty quick - car started right up with a jump - went about 1/4 mile and there's a traffic light and car dies
Now it will not jump start - So I call Concierge and get a recording !! And Ihad no idea we weren't supposed to flat tow so I called a wrecker and while waiting on him we practised with the tool to put car in neutral so we'd know how to do it when he arrived - Just for grins hit starter button and car fired up but when I put it in drive it wouldn't go anywhere as we had it in neutral with tool - Then car dies but we took it out of neutral with the tool I hit start button and it starts so I then put it in drive and took off and drove about six miles to my house and it didn't die like it had been doing

Now what to do ??? I'm afraid to drive it now as afraid I'll get stranded - and yeah still not heard from Concierge so no they are not 24 / 7

I don’t know anything about these cars, but I’d clean and tighten battery connections, ground cable connection(s) to car/motor/whatever, and thick cable connecting to starter.

How often are you driving it and are you keeping it plugged into the maintainer when not in use?

Concierge availability was previously 24/7. That portion of the program has been reorganized and the service team is operated at a different location with different hours.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

These New Ford GT’s must be connected to the battery chargers when not being driven, even more critical than the 05-06’s!

Without doing a diagnostic, it sounds like your charging system is not charging your battery. Consequently, when you drive, the engine is being run off the battery charge instead of off the charging system (the alternator) until the battery is too dead to run the engine.

There was also a problem with the starter reset switch circuit board. Hit starter button and not much happened.

Steve sounds like it might be possible your push button was left in on or accessorie and was completely dead after sitting for the entire show. This is easy to happen with no key possition these days of modern vehicles. Hope you get it charged and all works out from there.

Jiminee Nothing good about your experience and hope there is a better outcome than what you have experienced so far.

How often are you driving it and are you keeping it plugged into the maintainer when not in use?

I have 209 miles on it and yes it stays plugged in to charger at all times
