How do they work when cold. In the past I have ran racing pads on a street car the initial bite was a little worst than OEM but usable, just have to press a little harder. When they were warmed up on the track they worked much better than OEM. I used them on the street, until one day I drove the car in the rain, BAD! It was like a bicycle with rim brakes on a chromed rim! Nothing for about 20' or more at 30 mph!

They work fine hot or cold .Obviously even better when hot.In regards to the squealing very very little if any at all.I will say if my wife doesn't notice it's a ok!

Thanks, I am relutant to use pads on a mile run unless they have been tried before with good results. Pads ok for street driving may fade under more servere braking.

Mark McGowan has said he never had any fading with OEM pads. While Ford may not have performed braking from 250mph, they did do lot's and lot's of repetitive and severe braking. I'm sure they got the pads screaming hot. For Mark to say he never had any fading tells me the OEM pad is a great pad. What some user's may want however is more 'aggressive' braking and that should not be confused with considering one pad 'better' than another. All the top brake pad mfgrs make varying grades of friction pads to suit a driver's taste and driving style.

I cooked my stock pads the 1st time I had it on the track.
Fluid SRF racing or Pro sport Extreme 686 and pads are a must to me.Fluids available at Pegasus racing supplies
This is all just my 02

I have used Mintex, didnt last for me on the track. Got Padgids, better for me, but they didnt make it through the 2 days at NOLA. NOTE, I have raced a long time, and like Roketman, use brakes, and consider them a consumable item. Also a note at NOLA, I corded both front Hoosiers (they were stickers), and the rears are used up as well. Ran a bunch thursday and was done by 10am friday morning. Was approx 4 tanks of gas. I might try the Carbotechs for the next set.

STREET PADS DONT LAST ON THE TRACK. Track worthy pads WILL possess a downside, which could include, not great stopping power when cold, dusty, or squeal. Same thing for tires, sticky tires you will not get 75,000 miles. You have to pay to go fast.

As Also mentioned, CHANGE THE BRAKE FLUID, and bleed after each weekend. I run ATE super blue. A nice feature is that when you see blue out the bleeder, you know the system is fully flushed.... Dont forget the clutch. It gets cooked also and the pedal feels VERY strange....

If anyone cares, the OEM pad is / was made by Ferodo (no idea if the OEM pad has been "revised" over the years)

Sorry for the rant....

Also John, sorry I didnt have the second set of "take off" spares to give to you. Steve was the lucky one.

My own experience with pads through all my cars during the last 8 years is that the PAGID RS29 was the best without any question.
Used them last year in several tracks here in Europe with my heavy GT-R ( I was breaking later then the 599GTBs and the Turbos) and they was just unbelievably strong and
the bite was super strong. They killed the OEM discs as the GT-R is massive and almost 1800kgs so I combined them with the AP Racing discs and then the braking was 10 steps better then OEM.

I have found that the GT has the same pad as the Hyundai Genesis and the Subaru STi so I will for sure put these pads on the GT as well.

I too run a 2012 GTR on the track I use ap racing rotors and Carbo tech xp 20's pads.I use the pagids on my Porsche GT3 CUP CAR .But on everything else the carbotech's are awesome !Pagids are awesome no doubt .I am just stating my preference on my Gt and GTR.
Check out the video. The brakes work well! The Porsche I could not quite catch was a well driven GT2RS.

I too had the Mintex Xtreme pads from Stillen but on the AP brake system with GT Guys front brake cooling ducts. I had very bad brake fade and wore out the pads in one day at Autobahn Country Club. Switched to AP PRF Fluid (from Motul Blue) and Mintex FD61F3R pads and now I can get 3 to 4 days out of a set with no fade and great stopping power. They are somewhat loud but they really stop. We cryo'd the rotors too.

I guess I would love to get us all on the same track one same weekend. Let us run all our different brake pads, rotors, tires, brake fluids, etc. Then let's compare times and let the results fall as they may.

Absolutely no problem, Andy. The right guy got them.

This is some good stuff here. I'm at Road Atlanta right now. Put on Pagid Sport fronts and OEM rear. Janine and I are double teaming the car. Braking is really really good. Three tanks of gas today. Will see what pads and discs look like after tomorrow: will post some pics. Great weather down here. Track day sold out.

John ,
You lucky bastard! Wish I was! I have 1200 local turkeys sold and 150 Turdukens in the next 3 days!
The track is a fantasy to me right now!

Thanks for all the great info on brakes everyone. Extremely helpful. The Pagid Sports on front and OEM rear worked extremely good for me at this level. No issues at all and there is plenty of pad for another weekend, or two or three. And the rotors are looking good. I'm not driving super fast or braking really deep, so I may need something different later on, but for now this worked fine. Just FYI and FWIW. I did ask around the track about other's preferences and got a lot of thumbs up for Carbotech and PFC.

Oh, Ron, you get crap loads of track time, my heart aches for you. :biggrin:biggrin

John ,
You need to invite me south over the winter for a track event!
Actually I put that request to all members in warmer climates!

An open invitation, let's find a track. But you do know people down here talk funny, right?

And what the heck is a Turduken?
