So... I'm beginning to doubt what I see...

Look at the Group 25 orientation both in the spec from above and the picture on the Optima page. If the terminals are positioned to the front (closest to you) the positive (red) is on the left. Your picture is rotated, so if you reorient, the post is on your left...

You didn't stretch the cables. As I recall they were very short and couldn't reach across.

I believe you have a group 25 battery with a group 35 label???

Negative on the label swap (no pun intended ), I'll remove and see if there are side terminals as I belive the 35 has them in addition to the top terminal. Here's a picture of the group 25 to be installed tomorrow (on a maintainer now to ensure 100% charge before install).

Grp 25 install complete while the factory cigarette lighter charger plugged in (so no need to reset smog monitors- Thanks Kendall !), picture of the installed grp 25 and the removed grp 35 below, notice the covered side terminals on the grp 35, not a big fan of the side terminals so close to chasis (won't make that part no. mistake again). A little bit of build up on the negative cable terminal, brushed it off with some bacon soda and distilled water solution, clean as a whistle now- I am surprised the 35 lasted that long (Nov 2009 install date).

That may be or is approaching a record, getting 13 years out of an FGT battery.

As much as I like to keep the OEM/OEM-like deal going on all FGT replacement parts, not sure on this one.

My battery supplier and others are really negative on new Optimas, I'll be replacing soon so we'll see.

If you want the OEM type,get the Optima 25. You can peel off the Ford GT sticker and reapply to the new one.

I'm using an Odyssey 25-PC1400 made in USA. I keep the car on a Ctek charger plugged in the cig port. I have had this setup since 2019 no problems at all. Check out batterymart.com

I've had a battery shut off on every GT I've owned. never had a dead battery and never had to charge it. the only thing is you do lose your radio stations when you shut the battery totally off. I don't care, that's not the music I want to hear anyways! the music of the supercharger is all I need!! lol

You also lose all the emissions self-test status. Doesn't matter if you don't have OBDII emissions but if you do you'd have to run the entire drive cycle.

I got 16 years out of the original battery, but the new Optimas are not the same as the OE ones. Seems like 4-6 years is the norm now.

I've don't think I've ever had an issue with that. if I did, it never affected the run or performance of the engine even with a special tune. works as a good security feature.. you can just turn it off and pull out the red key

I had a switch on the Cobra too. Needed it because the Cobra is the easiest car on the planet to hot wire. But all the switch did was sit on the battery so someone with a 10mm wrench could take it out in a couple of minutes. But that's what all these things are about: slow them down so they move on.

it's just a bracket I made coming off the hood latch support brace. using basically a race car shut off switch.
linked it to the Negative side of the battery since everything pretty much completes the circuit by continuing the negative side

negative terminal is better for safety too. "Always remove the negative terminal first."

On my fourth battery but this most recent one has lasted because I now use a CTek. The main indicator of a dying battery on my car was random gauges crapping out, but fit the new Optima and, voila, they all come back to life.

My first OEM battery lasted 8 years. My last 2 (1 OEM, 1 Optima) both fizzled out at around 2 years.

I wanted to try something different so I bought a Lithium Antigravity battery.
