Amko Leenarts, head designer of the Ford GT Supercar interior, discusses a styrofoam model with Ford Design Chief Moray Callum, left. “We realized when we started the program we needed a small, dedicated space with a small team somewhere out of the norm,” Moray Callum, Ford’s design chief, told reporters in a Monday tour of the facility.

The supercar includes more than 50 sensors that generate 100 gigabytes of data per hour and feed 28 microprocessors, which control everything from tire pressure to door latches. The GT includes more than 10 million lines of code, about 8 million more than an F-22 fighter jet, Ford said.

New software systems also help regulate the 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine. It’s the same engine that debuted on Ford’s Taurus SHO and is on the 2015 F-150 pickup, but the GT engine includes custom pistons, rods, turbos and cams that will help it get more than 600 horsepower.

Holy cow. I'm dumbstruck buy all of the "by hand" detail. Astonishing. Very cool to see some of the other initial designs and the driver being fully decked out in race gear.

Fantastic! Thanks so much for posting these. What a great project to be a part of.

Rarely does the production car look better than the design sketches, but this car certainly does.

I notice it wore Viper wheels at some point.

Those are just standard Motegi race wheels (which Viper also uses), but good eye!

With all the CAD this and CAD that, wicked cool to see done "old school", where artists are working in clay.

Wonder if there will be a "Portfolio" collection of prints like the 05-06 car. Ford did I think 10 prints in a big folder approx 18" x 24" and only did 500 (would have to go look at mine to remember the details). Some cool drawings that Camillo did.

Man how do you fix this in 50 years:

I love this car, so much, but can't help but wonder if this quote got taken out of context and applied to the car instead of the building, because it does look snug in there :wink:biggrin:lol Hahaha. Kidding. About the quote, not the close confines! Those shoulder bolsters look like they're actually touching!!!

By then some pimply-faced 16 year old will laugh at how simple the system is and fix it with his phone.

Makes axle bolts and airbags seem as child's play.

In the second photo from the bottom there seems to be a HUD sketched onto the dash. Is this really a possibility? That would be a cool option. Can't wait to see all of the track telemetry gizmos that they shove into this thing. Fingers crossed for an onboard camera system for easy recording of track days and GT rallies :).

Thought I saw some provisions for a Ferrari style LED shift light system on the steering wheel too, I would definitely tick that box on the option sheet.
