Anyone have exhaust rattle from Heffner cat-back?

I was working on a car today for some unrelated problems and while running the car noticed a rattle noise from the exhaust. I can bang on the tips or cats with my fist and sounds like something is loose inside the cat-back pipes. The pipes are secure and are not touching anything. Does anyone know if there are any baffles or anything inside the Heffner pipes that may have come loose? Figured I would ask before I remove them to check them, and the cats for damage.Thanks.

I think that it would be unusual to have anythng come loose within the Heffner "plumbing" itself. I'd look at the following attach points:

1: The two bolts/washers per side that secure the Heffner to the flex strap.
2: Check the (4) bolts that secure the flex strap to the black two-piece transaxle bracket. These are near the center of the strap.
3: Finally, check the tightness of the (3) nuts that secure the two black transaxle braces together. The top black piece has studs, so you just need to check the nuts from the bottom.

Heffner does offer baffles for his cat-back systems, but they are an extra cost option and most owners seem to NOT install them. I do happen to have them on my car. I'm not sure what could come loose from them, they are pretty simple cone-looking devices.

Thanks for the replies guys. The Heffner pipes are such quality Pisces and the welds and bends on them are flawless so I really didn't think that something on them would come loose but you never know. I checked the mounting bolts and all of them are tight and not contacting anything. I may pull the pips to just check them and the cats. I didn't install them so I can't be sure that something didn't get in them when they we're put on.

Did you bring the car to any shows lately? Maybe someone flipped a rock in one of your pipes. Could be very inviting to a youngster.

The car belongs to one of my customers, I will check with him. I know he has been at the track a lot lately. I will let you know what I find. I hadn't thought about a young saboteur.:biggrin

I know of one FGT that had the inside of the CATs break into pieces. These pieces can fall into the Heffner and rattle around.

That is what i am thinking it is. I see it a lot in regular production cars just a small piece is not noticeable with a long exhaust system. :thumbsup

Thank's Heffner performance

Just as an update, My customer brought his car back to me Tuesday to do a couple things and to look more into the exhaust rattle from his cat back pipes. As I said in the original post the pipes were mounted solid and not contacting anything so I was convinced that the rattle was from something in the pipes themselves. I removed them from the car and after some really close inspection found a hair line crack in the weld of the brace that goes between the two pipes just before they turn down to the tips. I called Heffner's and explained what I found and that my customer had to be at the track this weekend so I needed a quick fix. They didn't have another set of pipes in stock yesterday so they offered to overnight the exhaust to them, which I did, and they would fix them in the morning and send the back out the same day. Well they got them this morning and they are on there way back to me for tomorrow morning. Some great customer service from Heffner's place.:thumbsup I would really like to thank them for handling this quickly and thank Adam over at Heffner's for dealing with my multiple calls yesterday and today and getting this done. I know it was a small problem, but they helped me get my customer to the track this weekend. Thanks again guys.:cheers:cheers
