This has been covered several times on the forum before, general consensus is that about half those here are college grads, and the majority own their own business.

Tanner, I was in the EXACT SAME BOAT as you my friend. I started working at a Ford dealer when I was only 20 as well. Small world. I'm now 30, been at the same establishment for 10 years, have LOTS of repeat customers, and love what I do. The best advise I can give you, is several things. The most important is this:
Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. When you do that, they will come back to you when they need another car.
Also, other important advise it this. Keep learning the business. You learn something new everyday. This business never ceases to amaze me.
Keep up on product info. That is the key. If you know your product, then your customer will know it too. Customers today know so much more about cars (and the ones that they want to purchase due to resources like the internet), and they can spot a phony a mile away.
Save as much money as you can. I had the luxury of living at home for a long time (I also was suffering from MAJOR medical issues from age 16 to 28, and had a liver transplant, so living on my own was not an option. Parents wanted me home), so I saved ALOT of my money away. I didn't even have a car (had a demo), so my only bills were from my meds I have to take(from the disease UC I had and the anti-rejection meds), and my 1 credit card bill if I wanted to buy some things. The rest went into my 401K, and Employee savings, where you don't have access to it, so it stays put.

Once I got to a point, I finally decided on a car, and while I don't have a Ford GT (I do wish I could though) I have a 2006 Mustang GT, and its totally customized (Borla, painted stripes, ducktail, among MANY other mods). I also had the ability to purchase a house with my sibling (this way much cheaper in my area).

I love my job. And if your a car nut, your customers will know this too, and selling cars will become much easier to do, as they will know your genuine, and like what you do. Good luck my friend.

BTW, where do you sell at?

Jeff
