Air Jacks would you do it?

Recently a friend had air jacks installed on his Prosche track car.

It is pretty cool...........zuuut and it's up

It required welding to the frame areas of the car. On a GT I would not say it is easily reversible, but can be. The cost to bring it back would be as much as the install itself IMO.

These are not hydraulic

They require a nitrogen bottle track side or in your garage. about 2,000 psi to lift it.

This one was done with two in the back and one in the front. For the GT the back looks reasonable, but have not scienced out the front.

The nozzle can be placed just about anywhere.

Figure the tires would be about 3-5" off the ground.

Once in the air a billet horseshoe is placed in notches of the strut as a jack stand of sorts. If you plan to be working under the car.

Do you feel this would be a favorable mod or would it drasticaly ruin the value of the car ?

Ok Pockets you left the door open. :biggrin

With this system Pockets could run the car through the gears and see how the exhaust sounds and never need clear bra or stuff to protect the windsheild. Even drive it on rainy days, no brake dust on the front wheels either.:banana...now you want it back , don't you:willy

Actually I thought the same, but it's just so cool and handy. Not on the fence, but trying to decide if to get there.

I thought long and hard if I wanted to have it on my 911 track car as well. I decided against it because it adds a significant amount of weight.

On the GT being a heavier car the penalty is not that much % wise. Having said that I think it is a system you only really need if you have a dedicated track car where swapping wheels in seconds is a matter of win/lose the race.

Otherwise what are you going to do during those 30 mins when your car is in the garage cooling off? :lol

(You thought the miles I did have on my car were ROAD miles??? :eek)

It's only useful for a track car (roll cage), which right there has brought the resale value of your car to 0.

Absolutely.....

........NOT!!! I am a typical Ford GT enthusiast and I would never buy a used Ford GT with such a modification. Like many aftermarket mods, and I have made a few on my own GT, if they are not completely reversible without damaging the vehicle, (and you keep and have available all of your original parts), the value of the vehicle is diminished. Welding something to the frame of a Ford GT would be like tattooing a small child. Not a good idea.

Since savage title cars are bringing in more than 80K, not quite to zero, but significantly less than not adding them.

It has been said before but a car's monetary value is only realized when you sell it. If you plan to be buried in this car then do whatever you want (the jacks would come in handy if they throw you 6' under by mistake).

It doesn't sound like a MOD that I would be in favor of but to each his own.

Wally, I would be up for an ejector seat and flip out roof panel if you see this someplace.

PS I can get the drugs you need to sleep at night and stop these bad, bad dreams.

Thanks Frank. I may take you up on that some day:lol

If Gennadi is done, I am not sure who could do the flip out roof panels. I think he had a set at the rally. I am pretty sure I can handle the ejector seat though. :banana

geez... Frank, why did you bring that up, now I will be up all night trying to figure out where to route the exhaust for the rocket pack, :ack

What some of you may have not realized the fact than in most states, welding of any nature to the frame, or unibody of a vehicle ( no matter the reason) deemes that vehicle to be considered "frame damaged"...and would greatly effect the value........

I have never heard that. We used to weld in sub-frame connectors on the Mustangs all the time. On those fox body cars that was seen as an improvement.

On the Porsche we had to weld to it to make it work. On the GT the frame is alum so that creates a problem as well. It would hoever be necessary to drill holes and devise a bracket that would stand up the the weight. Similar to what is required to add a roll cage.

I am over this idea now, it's now obvious that folks would not see this as a favorable addition.

Wally, first off congrats on your son's graduation from the Academy:cheers

After reading these comments, I have decided to put the air jacks in the floor of the new garage I am building. The only thing I need to worry about i sparking the GTs and all the other cars just right. Ideas????
