Well, look at it this way, somelee: if you'd been driving your GT you'd have been nailed for no front license plate too!

NOW! How was the G.E.C. Nats??? :skep

School zone speed limit in ARIDzona is 15 MPH.

Ask Chip, or Larry, or anyone else who lives down there, what happens if you are radared at 16 MPH...

After not having any speeding tickets in quite a while I got nicked twice in the GT this year. Stupid tickets too. Oh well. Price of admission.

Hey Bony,

In my younger years I fought a number of speeding tickets and I was getting pretty good at it. It is not my intention to turn this into a ticket fighting thread, but with your posted limited facts, I would recommend the following (unless you have a more aggressive plan).

Since the ticket was in Coalinga and presumably this is not your home town, you can request a trial by written declaration. In that declaration, I would cite the traffic condition which I would assume is practically zero at 4:30 am on a weekend. Perhaps perfect driving conditions, clear skies, no fog. Moderate temperatures (no freezing), good visibility, etc. etc. Anything you can say (if true) about the safe conditions.

What your are doing is attempting to prove that at that time, in that place, under those weather conditions, your speed was safe and prudent.

I would not advocate that you say anything that is untrue or would compromise your great integrity, but 40mph at 4:30am does not seem to be un-safe.

"Prima Facie Speed Limits: Numerical speed limits (statutory and posted) that, if exceeded, justify enforcement action. However, if the accused motorist's actions can be proven to be safe, reasonable and prudent for the prevailing conditions, the charge of speeding shall be dismissed by the court of jurisdiction."

Far too many times, a 25 MPH posted speed is nothing but a revenue generator. Proof of that is easily shown by the number of times a week one sees radar units posted in such places. (We have a number of these here in my area.)

MOST people drive at a speed that's "comfortable" for a given road, road surface, road width, 'number of - or lack of - curves, the amount of traffic, the time of day, the type of "neighborhood", etc. 'At a speed that seems RIGHT, if you will. If EVERYBODY traveling a particular road is CONSTANTLY going 10 or so MPH over the posted speed - then, it's the speed limit that's wrong, NOT the drivers. The posted speed on such a road indicates that speed limit sign is a revenue generator, not a "safety" generator.

'Coarse, that doesn't negate the fact you'll still be ticketed if you exceed the posted limit. :thumbsdow

well....I guess your right about the plate situation........the Show was pretty cool...through I drove my 66 Chevelle SS there today and arrived 30 minutes too late to get in with it......so I was a spectator again........owell....met some nice folks and saw some nice rides.......it was for years '72 and older.....so no GT......but lots of rods.....if you like that old stuff!
was fun driving the old steel today though....really made me appreciate how easy the GT is..........but once in awhile its nice to have to work when your driving.......now I remeber why they call em' muscle cars :lol

Got pulled over by a cop for no front tag. After showing him the engine and talking Ford (he was driving a crown vic interceptor). I subtly stated that I did not have a front bracket and the car did not come with one as I bought it "lightly" used. Then I asked this question ... "If you owned this car. Would you drill a hole in it to place a front tag on it?" He looked at me like I had just said "I want to have sex with your (insert appropriate person here)" and said "absolutely NOT!" and I said "and neither would I".

now he just waves when he sees me drive through the speed trap at whatever speed I am driving. :cheers

Exactly what I intend to ask. But I intend to add, "...especially when ATV's, motorcycles, car dealers, farm vehicles, antique & classic cars, and cars with "trip permits" in the rear window can legally drive down the road all day long w/o one."

Like we discussed on another thread a while back, it's a simple matter of the front plate requirement being a direct violation of the "equal protection clause" of the constitution. Laws must be applied EQUALLY to everybody. And with all the "legal exceptions" outlined above, this one obviously AIN'T bein' applied equally in this state. (And one doesn't need a law degree to see that.)

The trick, of coarse, is going to be finding a judge somewhere along the "appeal" process who's familiar with that clause...and who'll then actually rule in a manner that complies with it.:bored

I favor buying a couple of armored vests for the local sheriffs department ... that way it never gets to that point. But then again I live out in rural america where a little grease helps things along sometimes.

I just call it civic duty. I know that tax-deductible donation has saved me $ many, many times.

Good stratagy ... but, I'd have to buy 'em for the local P.D., the Sheriff's Dept, AND the Highway Patrol!!!!:lol

I'm just too cheap. Besides, everybody knows I own a "garage queen" ...so my return on investment in ticket $$$$$ saved would be pretty nonexistant!

(Just hush, Bony...)

Hey .... just pick the neediest department. Cops talk and when you get a rep for being a supporter at their level. It carries over huge. One thing I did was write "Donated BY (insert name here) in grateful appreciation." in each vest with a laundry pen. Each new cop who came on the force used the vests as a loaner until they bought their own. Each one who wore one of them remembered who gave it to them. Of course it helps if your last name is not common like Smith, Jones or ....

Remember cops talk... thats all they have to do when the shift is boring. Its better to be talked about favorably than not.

two cents worth given.
