OK guys, I've now had it for a week and have put 900+ miles on it so far, so can give some first impressions. However, I'll answer some of the questions first.
1) It weighs just over 3000lbs.
2) The funky logo is (believe it or not) a highly stylized version of the original McLaren racing logo which was a Kiwi bird's head (go figure...)
3) I think that any severe mods would destroy the balance of the car, but of course if someone can do a chip and tune for another 100hp.....
Anyway, I have essentially used it as my only vehicle since arrival - freeways, b-roads, even dirt roads, in rain or shine. I've been grocery shopping in it, gone to Home Depot etc. This car is unbelievably comfortable - smoother than my wife's Lexus when in 'normal' mode. Compared with the GT, there's a lack of initial drama when you mash the gas, probably a combination of the electronics and turbo effect. However, when you get anywhere over about 2500 rpm it absolutely hauls ass without let-up all the way to 8900. Initially I missed having a proper gear shift and clutch pedal (its my first paddle 'box car) but I soon got to like it - smooth and easy for traffic, then flick down a few cogs and Whooosh! Handling and braking is fantastic. The cockpit is more cramped than the GT (you sit very close to the passenger) but with a lot more headroom. Interior quality is lovely and the 'space fabric' on the seats very nice for hot Texas. Ground clearance a little less than the GT - I've scraped the tub a couple of times over speed bumps. I've not really explored the handling yet (I've got some track days coming up for this) but can report that when the warning sign on a bend states a recommended speed, you can multiply by about 2.5 without even noticing - 40mph bends at 95-ish are not a problem.
Sorry this is all a bit rambling and disjointed, but the car truly is amazing - how many 200+mph supercars can really be a practical everyday driver? Please note however that my GT still rocks and will forever be the car to get my pulse racing. I do love the heritage of these two machines - both long racing lineage, both with a strong Bruce McLaren connection. I am very lucky.
I'll report back after my upcoming track day - I'm told the lack of a differential, brake steer and airbrake all make for a complex learning experience on the track.
