Chip needs a CCW to wear long sleeve shirts.

T-Shirt Bricks.

T-shirts (as with everything else) are brought down on the mules. They vacuum pack them in to brick-shaped form wrapped in plastic, and the density is about that of a brick - I think you could actually build something with them. Every year's t-shirts are different and quite artistic and good high quality, so I always make a point to get 2. One is still in its brick form from the 2011 trip.

Tony,

Here is a photo of the current Phantom Ranch T-Shirt I bought down there, still in brick form. It's looks cool sitting on my desk in it's vacuum packed plastic so I haven't opened it yet.

Wow, that's a great image. Do you know who the artist is?

I'd always thought it would be cool to gather the images they used as almost all are awesome art in their own right.

great story and fantastic photos !!! thanks for sharing.

While visiting Vegas, we've taken a couple helicopter tours into the Canyon. Absolutely amazing. We landed about 200ft above the river for a 45 minute snack break...and I felt incredibly insignificant. Had I been dropped off there and left, I would certainly be dead and not composing this post. I can't even imagine seeing and experiencing it from where you were.

Thanks for the story! While reading it, I took many a steps with you.

I've thought about becoming a Grand Canyon hermit. Go to boaters camps and offer to clean up after them for a little food. Plenty of water but you risk getting giardia if you don't filter it. (I forgot on the rafting trips to mention we filter our own water and poop in a rocket box and take it with us every step of the way).
