So with nothing to separate the cars in terms of acceleration or performance, prospective owners will have to choose based on looks. Even the most energy-efficient or reliable hypercar is not suitable for daily use, meaning that for most owners, more time will be spent looking at the car parked outside their homes or in their multi-car garage than behind the wheel enjoying the performance.

Right On…EP they were thinking of YOU!

If they were really thinking of him, they'd deliver the car without the engine, he'd never start it anyway!!!

I understand that the car may be suitable for no use, but why is it not suitable for daily use?

^^^ 'Basic utility?

I had a chance to sit inside the 918 spyder at the pre- auto show event porsche had last night here in LA. The car is truly a work of art. So many similarities to the Carrera GT in terms of basic design concept. I will also say that with the sport seats, the interior of the car felt very, very cramped. The "liquid" silver paint ($64,000 option) looked pretty ordinary. Since worldwide production will be 918 units, I assumed that all the cars were spoken for....but I was wrong. Fewer than 2/3 of production has been sold and they are taking orders.....

^^^ so when do you take delivery?

It's going to be very difficult to sell all 918 units in my opinion. I think the car is phenomenal, it's beautiful, sounds wicked, has probably the coolest OEM exhaust setup of all time....but it's nearly a million bucks and that's a lot of volume at that price point. I think the vast majority of the buyers of LaLaLaLaFerrari/Mc P1/918 could buy all three if they felt like it, but exclusivity is still desirable. According to McLaren, they could have sold more P1s, but based on customer feedback scaled back production because 500 units was too high. Not a big difference between a P1 at $1.1 mil or a 918 at $935k with the Weissach package.

There is a lucky forum member that is a 918 buyer.

Wow. Not the biggest Porsche fan but this one and the Carrera GT are sublime.

It will truly be a collector car only....

Car looks awesome in this video. Porsche seems to have done a nice job underselling the capability of the car up to the point of launch. Either that or they went back and cranked the capability up to better match the other hypercars.

Messing around with the configurator, the optional wheels are $32,500, the special paint is $63,000, and the special leather is $26,000. Yowza!

Why do I always think that the term "spyder" is reserved for open top cars - does this have a folding hardtop?

991 Turbo

I took delivery on a Turbo S a week ago. Phenomenal car in every respect. In normal mode more of a GT car but in sport mode it transforms into a beast of a sports car. A couple pics below.

Yes, it's a 'targa top', similar to the Carrera GT.

...and I think it's a much nicer looking car than that out of proportion looking 918...
