Was fun to watch. Would be interesting to see how they do with test driver from each company going head to head on time on the same track.

Personally, I didn't get much out of it. They appeared to be more interested in 'drifting' than driving.

To each their own ehh!?

I haven't heard anything negative about the 458 (except them the burning to the ground occasionally). I suspect it is as fantastic as the video portrayed. Kudo's to Mr. Montezemolo.

Not the outcome I was expecting (or hoping for).

There seems to be a common theme to the McLaren reviews.

While the McLaren guys seem to have various reasons why it did poorly in reviews, it seems that just about every reviewer out there preferred the F 458. I'm surprised, and maybe a bit disappointed as I have a deposit on one.

Most motoring shows these days seem to be a platform for drifting skills - incredibly boring.

I'd also take any 458 results with a pinch of salt. I'm not convinced that the Ferraris being tested bear much resemblance to the ones you buy.

I know I wouldn't be disappointed.

I'd take the McLaren every day over the fugly F 458.

Couldn't care less what the reviewers say.

I was at Cars & Coffee this morning. I was one of 4 GTs there, and there were probably 15+ Fcars of all shapes and sizes. The entire time I was there there were 8-10 people around my car. The Fcars? There was a 430 Scud that I don't think had more than 5 people look at it.

People love the GT.

I seem to recall more than one auto journalist commenting/hinting/opining that Ferrari won't make its cars available to mags that have published less than stellar reviews of them. 'Don't know how true that is, but, I've sure 'heard' that enough times to believe that may be the case.

That might explain the reason for/cause of your "surprise".

:agree: THAT would result in a more legit outcome. (Especially since the comment was made that they were trying to get the Mc to do what it was programed NOT to do, etc.)

Funny you should mention that. Autocar has a great article that outlines the counter intuitive nature of the MP4 on a track.
As a car understeers the natural reaction is to come off the gas, reduce the steering angle and let the grip come back to you. In the MP4 it is recommender you turn the steering in more to further initiate the rear inner brake (brake steer) and to give alot more throttle to avoid turbo lag and apparently the understeer disappears. When it comes to me I would be chicken to try this with a 250+K car. Almost sounds like the old 911 turbos. If you try to seriously dift the car, the steering is counterlocked so when grip returns the outside rear wheel brakes throwing your front end straight outside and steering you off the track. This is well illustrated in the 5th gear video. Kind of interesting to see the clip again knowing what the Bosch ESP was doing during the power drift.

The 458 has beaten the new McLaren in every test I have seen, so I doubt any conspiracy there.

PS I'm too Ford crazy - give me a new 302 Mustang & $100K for mods & I would be in heaven!

Honestly? Get the deposit back. The 458 is the real deal. Better yet, get a ZR1 and a Boss 302 and have LOTS of money left over for more caddy's!!!
