What is interesting is that nobody has commented about the horrific picture that SCM used.

This is so sad. I am having second thoughts about starting this thread.

Yeah, that pic was pretty tasteless. I noticed there were two versions floating around, one which photoshopped out the "worst" part.

If you wouldn't have started it someone else would. This is the hot topic among people with fast cars. There's a legit chance this could affect how sports cars are built and used, so it's worth discussing. As you said, look what happened with the 930s last time.

Yes, I can see it now. How can any auto manufacturer defend putting manual transmissions in vehicles knowing that "automatics" are far safer given that it allows the driver to keep both hands on the steering wheel(as well eliminating the need to work a clutch) and is generally less demanding.

The list could go on but it's easy to see where the mindset of "shared accountability" leads.

I would not want to be the lawyer defending auto companies in front of a jury of "my peers". I can see why they settle what I routinely see as meritless suits.

The ramifications are huge.

It is impossible to explain the love of fast cars, planes, guns, super stereo systems, collector wines, art to people that aren't open to choices different than their own.

Some of us have issues where insurance companies refuse to bind us if we race, fly planes and engage in what they determine is risky. I smoke and am rated for it. In my business we have a partner's buy out policy in force.

I'm on this site because of the fellowship and mutual passion for the FGT.

I see this case as another frontal attack on our hobby.

We can talk about what is right and wrong. Folks don't settle law suits unless they feel it is prudent to do so. This award is public knowledge and will effect the design of cars, and how open track events are ran in the future.

It is having a major impact on insurance rates that organizers of track days are discovering. Sometime last summer insurance companies alerted their customers that rates would increase substantially based on their understanding that a settlement was going to take place.

The group I partipate with at Watkins Glen spoke about their notification and the projected increase in fees to cover the insurance costs.

Dave:cheers

Hey Dave, I'll buy your trailer if you're giving up racing. You have to paint it RED though.
