Gentlemen,

I'm on site and my GT has been tech inspected. The good....as always, everybody is super nice, the airport is first rate, and Jason saved a great trailer space for me. The bad....this field is closer to the Gulf than Goliad and the wind blows HARD all day long and they are running us straight dead into that head wind. Uh, OK. Next the runway is not level, it has a 1 to 2% grade. Not only have they decided to run us straight into the wind, we are running UPHILL!! WTF??? Unlike past Texas Miles that sold out in a day with a long waiting list, this event is not full. It looks like there is 1/2 the cars as last year.

I expected high temps and high humidity, but combining those two with big constant headwinds and an uphill grade may kill this event because speeds are going to be much lower. Honestly, when I got here today and saw how they set it up, my heart sank. An 1100 mile trailer pull so I can run a high speed hill climb. The old Texas Mile was run slightly downhill and the prevailing headwind was at least quartering.

If a good # is run tomorrow, the drivers first thought will be "What would my speed have been if I had run this on level ground?". Oh well, enough bitching. Tomorrow we drive. I'll keep you posted.

Chip

:bored that sucks chip! good luck today, Im sure jason will give us the play by play every 5 minutes.:lol

Gentlemen,

I have done one run. I took my time taping, inspecting, and getting ready. They have a license system now and based on my previous 220 mph run I was given an A license. With that a driver needs to do a pass between 205 & 220 to get an AA license which is unlimited. Uh...OK.

Now it doesn't sound that hard but with a 20 mph gusty wind moving the car around and with my not so razer sharp 55 year old eyes ard a speedo set way off to the right, it's harder than it looks. I thought I would use set point 3 (reduced boost) on my trick new dash mounted boost controller.

A nice easy launch and........Waaaaaaaa....good God Almighty...what the hell did Kendall do to my car?!? This is reduced boost?!? Tires break loose in 3rd gear and I lift momentarily. 4th gear and I have never felt anything like this. 5th gear and I'm going to blow past 220 way before the 1 mile mark so I lift again. Car is moving around in the wind as I coast past the line. Taking my eyes off the road to look at the speedo was most unsetteling but I thought I hit that bracket. No!!! 203.5, I lifted a bit too soon. I'll go try again.

What I can say is that I will not do a #4 (24 lb boost) run unless the wind dies down. My car is WAY faster at 21 lbs (#3) than it ever was before. It's unfrigging believable. Even with this rediculous headwind the car feels like it will top 230. We'll see. Cheers.

Chip

I agree it is harder to "hit" a range than run flat out.

Best of luck this weekend Chip. We are anxious to see how things go for you. Running 230 is way fun.....so I have heard. :biggrin :cheers

Hitting 200+ was way fun too, but I don't think I will ever reach the 230 mark. You TT guys have all of the fun in the mile events.

I am pulling for Soroush to have a good run so Mullet will win a shirt.

Be safe, go fast!

I don't know what is worst, wearing that shirt in TX where you might end of dead in a field, or in my area where you will get the kind of attention you DON'T want. You have to be a brave soul to put that one on in public/pubic! :lol

Chip,
It was great to see you too my friend. It had been a while and I'd hate to say it, but maybe since Daniels passing. Wanted to see you and Veronica when I had my short stint in Phoenix but wasn't able too. But, I hope everything is going good at the Texas mile... Please give some of those bear hugs to my fellow GT friends and tell them I said HI and best of luck and be safe.... See you guys at Rally VI if not before then....

Gentlemen,

Yesterday was a tough day here. On my 2nd run I hit the 205-220 bracket and got my unlimited license. Only about 5 drivers got them yesterday. The wind blew harder and harder straight down the runway as the day went on and the temps kept climbing. Only about 1 car was running every 5 minutes as most drivers decided not to run.

About 1 minute before they shut down at 5pm I made a pass into about a 22 mph headwind, still on setting 3. 210.7 mph and I think that was the 3rd fastest car pass of the day. Nobody cracked 220. I know my car has the balls to do it but in these conditions I'm not sure I have the balls to do it.

Runs have not started yet this morning and the damn wind is already howling. The weather gods are not smiling on this event. It's supposed to blow even harder today.
