Overview: New for 2008 is the ROUSH 427R Trak Pak Mustang. For most of us, owning both a daily driver and a race car is quite a stretch. Let’s face it, racing isn’t cheap, and if you’re working all the time to pay for your ride, when will you find the time to race? ROUSH Performance makes it easy, well easier, with the new 427R. This performance Mustang, which is completely street legal, is designed for daily driving, while offering plenty of performance power on the track. Joe Thompson, ROUSH Performance vice-president and general manager said in a press release, “The handling on this Trak Pak Mustang is truly something amazing. Even though this car has, obviously, a lot of content which was designed for track use, I foresee most owners using this as a 'daily driver' as the handling of the ROUSH 427R Trak Pak Mustang is our best-handling Mustang ever.” The only downside is it costs a little less than $60k. On second thought, maybe you should keep that second job.
Power & Performance: As for power, the 427R Track Pak has plenty. ROUSH reports the car is capable of producing 435 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque courtesy of its 4.6L ROUSHcharged engine which is made up of a ROUSHcharger, air induction system, intake manifolds, and ROUSH calibrated ECM.
As for handling, the 427R Track Pak was designed to meet the demands of racing. According to the company, the 427R is an improvement over the popular Stage 3 due to a tightening of the car’s race track response, shock absorber tuning, and tightened spring rates. The car’s suspension system is made up of adjustable front and rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear stabilization bars, front and rear jounce bumpers, and adjustable camber/caster plates. In addition, the car uses dedicated coil-over adjustable dampers for improved ride height.
Okay, so you’ve got a Mustang that’s loaded with power and is designed to handle turns with ease. How do you make it stop? The 427R is equipped with 6-piston front brakes backed by 14-inch, two-piece slotted front rotors and slotted rear rotors. The car also features a ROUSH brake cooling system and high temperature brake fluid.
Appearence: To top it off, the ROUSH 427R Track Pak Mustang looks intimidating. I can only imagine pulling next to one of these at a stop light. The car sports a ROUSH three-piece aero body kit (front fascia, front chin spoiler, and hood scoop). In addition, it features a functional carbon fiber rear wing, hood pins, and 18-inch forged wheels painted dark charcoal.
Interior: The interior of the 427R is all performance. Drivers will find a new 3-gauge dash pod with engine oil temperature, coolant temperature, and a boost gauge. The car also features ROUSH sport leather seating, a short throw shifter with retro-style ball, and performance pedals.
Production: Unfortunately, only 100 ROUSH 427R Track Pak Mustangs were to be produced for 2008. The vehicle became available in the Summer of 2007. If you were unable to get your hands on one, you can still purchase performance parts featured on the car. ROUSH Performance offers various components of this package for those looking to beef up their existing Mustangs.
