I'm looking at two identical KR's both are brand new, black/black, fully optioned. One is a 2008 (40th Anniversary Badging), the other a 2009. Prices are the same at $64,500. With the prices falling on these, now may be the time to pull the trigger. The question is, "Which one would be better in the long run - The 40th Anniversary badged car, or the 2009???? I know that nobody can predict the future value, but if you had to guess???......Thoughts?

The cars are the same, I think, other than the badging. I'd go for the badging. Sure you don't want RED?

Think along the lines of the 1968 GT/CS. I agree with you Tim, this is the time to get a KR and I've seen them as low as $62K but with Silver/Blue. Blk on Blk rocks...

I am also interested in your thoughts on the Super Snake vs the KR. Value? Pricing? etc....

I definately have a KR on the list for one of these days. This year ain't gonna let it happen but next year will be here soon and hopefully more cooperative to my automotive needs...

That's a good question. I think the Super Snake will out-perform the KR, but the fact that the KR is a "Ford-Shelby" joint factory project (overseen and sold through Ford) could potentially make the KR worth more in the long-run. When compared historically to other customer-ordered, aftermarket modded cars, the factory cars always end up with higher values in the end. I looked at the 2008 KR that was at Barrett-Jackson this year (Black-black) on monday at Bell Ford in Phoenix. They still want $97,000!!! I don't think a Mustang is worth that much, but at $64K, it really captures my interest. The SS will cost a bit more when you add transportation, time out of service, and all the goodies added-in. I like the turn-key approach of the KR. To get further insight, I just tried to call Jamal to get his views as the KR was his baby at SVT, but missed him. Perhaps if he is on the forum and sees my thread he could enlighten us some of his thoughts.

Tim,

I have a 2008, had it over a year. Great car, I agree that the exclusiveness of the KR vs SS will make it more valuable. Check out the shelbyautos forum for more background. Very expensive to replace any of the shelby parts, 3K front splitter, 8-18K hood. Great compliment to the GT. Both share the same oil I just found out, 5W50. One other item is the exhaust is unique to the KR, and quite loud. Much harder to sneak out of neighborhood at 6:00 am.

what are the production numbers on the 09 vs the 40th?

the 40th an. edition is a option from shelby i believe not a ford opt. and shelby put this package on a number of the 08 shelby's not just the kr. if this is true, i dont think the 40th is going to carry the demand people think it will.

kr special designed ford option to the gt500 finished by shelby
ss special designed shelby option to the gt500 finished by shelby
40th ann. special designed shelby option to all the 08 shelby mustangs(gt500, kr, ss, shelby gt) finished by shelby.

when looking at the production numbers of the 40th ann package does one include all the 40th production shelby mustangs or just the kr 40th ann?

personally, i would choose on production numbers 1st, and on look and feel of the car 2nd.

Not being a smartypants here....but I don't think we will live long enough that it will matter in our lifetime. Seriously. :bored

Tim,

For what it's worth, I purchase anniversary and or limited editions [i.e. 1999 Panoz AIV Roadster-10 yr Anniversary Edition; 2001 Indian Chief-100 yr Anniversary Edition, 2006 Ford GT - Gulf Heritage Edition].

Don't know if it really matters much, being I never sell them anyways.

Go for what trips your trigger.

For what it is worth.....My best research shows that 1,000 2008 KR's were made and 571 were made for 2009. I do not know if these numbers are 100% correct but I have reason to believe that they are more accurate than not.

I have heard DanM's 2008 KR and he is right about the exhaust. That thing barks!

Good luck in your search :thumbsup

Jeff,

Don't forget the 200 built for export(Canada) in 2009.

Tim,

Go for it. (and a 6.2 Raptor in the spring)
I agree with Spirit, I have a 2008 KR (40th Anniv)
If there is a long run the 2008 will be the one to look for.

The exhaust is awesom...

Darin:thumbsup

2008 40th anniversary would be my choice! will always hold more value than one that is not an anniversary year.

Hello Tim.

depending on production date. The 08 will most likely have the infamous clutch/tranny TSB issue.

09 Black KR will have low production #'s. Plus, 09 is the last of that body style. 2010, my opinion, major style changes.

Get the 09, send it to SAI, get the KR "UP-FIT" upgrades/options. Will make it even more rare.

FYI. My 08 SuperSnake is complete. 7 weeks. and you said it was going to be soooo much longer.

I pick it up next week. Week of SEMA, how convenient. :)

I seriously considered the KR, but I really wanted a convertible.

I also want a 68 KR vert too. But that it is not happening anytime soon.

Some good advice and an alternative view, makes sense. What is the 08 tranny issue? Friend of mine jusst dropped his on a burnout after leaving a cars and coffe in Tampa? 08 GT500

Done - Bought the 2009

Garrett and I went to Milwaukee this week and picked up the 2009 KR (CSM NUmber 537). It is one of the last builds. It's got every Ford Option, Black on black. Looks and drives great. I am quite happy. We cut the deal Monday night, left Ohio Tuesday at Noon and got to the dealer in Milwaukee by Tuesday evening. We got her loaded in an hour and spent the night in Chicago, and brought it home Wednesday at Noon. Garrett and I have already tinted a spare set of front turn-signal/marker lamps and installed them today. We have spare rear turn signals, brake light etc. and plan to black out all the lighting/markers and put the stock pieces in boxes. Here's a shot today of the front end (bad camera and lighting, sorry.) Thanks for all the advice and opinions! I have to say I like this one WAY better than my 2007 GT500!
