I know this car very well and how ironic as the banner is the very one hanging above my new car in Rich and Dennis shop. Like I said within 2 days of my first drive in a GT (WH1). OK a little story about the day of Work Horse 1 introduction. Roush had just finished building the car within hours of the introduction. I think the last thing they installed was the windshield. To make sure no one went too far with the car on the first day I did not install the seat belts. So WH1 goes though the banner and we have the speeches and photo’s shoots and as everyone heads for home. Dennis, Jeff Walsh and I install the seat belts and proceed to the parking lot outside of Roush 56. Jeff and I slowly start to drive WH1 around in the parking lot to see if there are any major issues with the car. It stops, it turns, the lights work, is shifts (kind of), and so on. By now it’s 7 at night and pitch black out but Jeff and I are still driving farther and farther from Roush 56, remember this is before we had cell phones so if something broke we walk. Well by 8 that night we are now on the Southfield Freeway miles from home base expanding the envelope and the smiles on our faces. Nothing broke and we did make it back with Dennis still there waiting for his baby to return. And so end my first GT drive. Was one of the many magic moments in the program.
