Neil Hannemann was the Chief Program Engineer on the Ford GT project, but then went to McLaren in the UK. Maybe you were talking to one of his buddies!

The guy I met was not likely a buddy of Hannemann as he was in his early twenties and, I believe, very junior at McLaren.

Mine's been a dream at 4500 miles. About the door closing as mentioned earlier, my car is soooo airtight, I need to open the window a crack for the other door to close. At speed, when I open the window and then close it, my ears pop (no funny jokes about this boys!)
Absolutely correct. :thumbsup

Thank you for your responses ... The Elise is a great car to drive ... fantastic handling.. just a bit underpowered.. but too fun to sell. I call it my "econo-exotic" .. not to bad to fix (toyota motor) and good on gas (26/31).

But I have always been drawn to three cars (in order) .. Shelby 289 Cobra, Gt-40, and Ferrari Daytona. I know it shows my age :biggrin

I am about to test drive a Noble for a track car but really am looking at the Gt as a driver/racer or maybe a driver/car club vehicle.

Can anyone give me some input on how the Gt handles a "tight" track?

Thank you again for your input.

Clarkson complained about the gas mileage BECAUSE he was running flat out at a closed track and ran out of gas. Mileage at flat out is probably about 8 mpg or less. A Veryon at flat out runs out in 12 minutes (Motor Trend). There are other posts about this. He just whined but kept the car.
Mark McGowin (sp?) the test driver for ford stated that gas mileage at top speed to be 2.7 mpg. As far as Clarkson goes remember he is an entertainer and needs drama to keep up his ratings.

Steve-

I've got similar tastes. I Have a bunch of track time in an Elise and currently drive an Exige Cup car. Very different cars compared to the GT. Drop me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call to discuss.

State of Confusion
My passenger door needs to be shut hard, QUOTE]

Yes, mine too, as a result the door ajar light is on "all the time"
Is this a color specific issue ? :biggrin

As suggested to me, try leaving one of the windows open about an inch or so to relieve the air pressure. It seems to work well.

Steve, the posts above are more than representative of GT ownership. You have to remember that Clarkson (who I like) is profoundly pampered by the motoring industry. His days are spent answering calls from Aston Martin saying 'what can we do for you today Mr Clarkson'. As a result he is impatient, unrealistic and unrepresentative of any owner of any car. And that's a fact!

The bits that failed on his GT were not Ford bits but aftermarket electronic bits - as previously posted here.

The GT is a beautiful and reliable rocket.

As for a decent tight track car? I'd say no. I track mine regularly and am doing so again next week. It's got the grunt to make it fun - but in the hands of two experts (I wouldn't grade myself as one) your Elise would probably win - maybe. In the hands of ordinary amateurs (yup, that'd be me), the Elise would DEFINITELY win! The Elise is nimble and pointable, the GT is a big car to hustle.

I did a side by side track day not so long ago with a 1973 911 lightweight and the GT - the 911 was more rewarding.

However I enjoy tracking the GT as it eats lesser cars on the straights.

Having re-read my post, I think it's probably the case that if I were a better track driver and was able to drift (the back end of the GT does like to come out to play) the car - I'd rate it more highly on the track.

Jason's THE driver on this forum. I'd be interested in his view......
