Really cheap price on a 2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage convertible with low miles. Anyone own or owned one that can render an opinion?

I believe Neilda has or had a Vantage during the past year or two. Based on the cars he writes about...he would probably be a good person to talk to re: Aston Martins.

I had the original V8 Vantage from the 1980's....

The DB7 Vantage needs a thorough going over by an expert before you part with your cash - small problems can be extremely expensive, however the V12 engine makes a wonderful sound and it's an attractive ride.

Mileage? Regular servicing? Are you close to an Aston dealer and do they have a good reputation?

If you get a good one, it will be a rewarding car to own, they are mechanically reliable and the V12 is bullet proof - however, servicing and parts costs can be high.

HHGT, Nielda is right, Please check for rear seal on the v12,gasket cover leaks, remember not to hurt your feelings, your buying a GLORIFIED XJ-S . Same frame and platform. If the a/c does not work , THE ENTIRE DASH MUST BE REMOVED if its the core etc. This is a 6 to 9,000 dollars job alone:eek . Yes welcome to the world of BRITISH WONDERS....
2001 I purchased a Bentley ARNAGE RED LABEL for my fathers retirement...p.s. they never really retire, they just keep giving you there bills........anywho, he came from nothing, great life deserved the best, the components on that car are so old, like the men that drive them that the car in a garage is a fire hazard...no smiley face this time :biggrin
The new astons are light years ahead of the old platform, fit/finish/electrics, so go through it VERY carefully or youll be spending thousands a week to keep it RUNNING..........GTJOEY 1314 DRIVING A GT, WITH NO PUDDLES ON THE FLOOR,NO BAD RUST WAX COATINGS ? ON THE PANELS,NO INLINE WIPER MOTOR FUSES TO BLOW AND NO HYDROLIC CONVERTABLE LINES TO BLOW ON YOUR TWEED RUGS:eek

The car was purchased and parked, it has a bit over 1,000 miles on it and the family will let it go for $40K. Never had any service work done, not even an oil change. Other than that I am told the car is as new.

They did have 'em at one time. 'Made black & white T.V.'s for a short while in the early 50's. But they stopped production 'cause customers keep complaining about the fact they could only get the "black" part to work.

Aston was owned by Ford at the time in 2003 and had improvements, similar to what they instilled in Jaguar.

Its a Jag in Drag

The value is headed only down on this model...its not good looking

On ebay there are 3 in same price range...higher mileage

The a/c controls are straight from Aerostar minivan with 2 in gap to veneer trim; the dash guages look like they just glued in the card-board box it shipped in.

I am not sure but seem to remember that the transmission on these are nightmares....

The last Vanquish Black Series is the one you want with ZF 5spd.

Yes, quite.

Pre Ford, Astons were not altogether competent vehicles. Pre-war and through to the 60's, but then an awful period followed... almost exactly the same story with Jaguar. Having owned both Jags and Astons under the Ford banner I can attest to the massive improvements that Ford brought.

Nielda, wouldnt you agree that the same year in jag xk-8 for 10 grand less today is a better bargain AND SEXIER to boot. Plus new platform , engine and all the rest. My 2 cents gtjoey 1314:thumbsup

Oh, only about 100% agree.

Actually I'd always go for the XKR in preference to the XK8. I had two XKR convertibles as my daily drivers and a Vanquish as the weekender. The XKR is a whole other animal to the XK8. A very underrated car in my opinion.

It is said, usually in a very quiet voice, that the very latest 5 litre XKR is a better car than the DB9.

I looked and researched the DB7 and the DB9 convertibles when I was thinking of getting one. The 9 is so much better in all ways it made me forget the 7 as an option. From the way the top concealed to how well it drove the 9 was great. From what I heard from other Aston owners the 9 was much more reliable than the 7 as well.

The 7 and the 9 are worlds apart.

Quite a price differential too.
