Did Colin Chapman come back from the dead and join the GTR development team?

Chapman's philosophy (and I have first hand knowledge owning an Esprit Turbo) was that tolerances were engineered only to the extent of the finish line.

Oh yeah, they are....

UGLY, OVER PRICED & OVER RATED

:lol

I wouldn't mind driving one, just like I wouldn't mind driving a ZR-1. Always like to try something new. Just don't want to own either one.

I think one of the other problems the GT-R is facing is the old Skylines were a semi-legendary car that have a reputation of bullet proof engines/drivetrains that many people had tuned into 1000+ horsepower fire breathing beasts with minimal problems and an all wheel drive system that turned average drivers into heroes.

Whether that impression of the old Skylines is completely accurate or not, that is what people want and expect out of the new GT-R. Time will tell, speculation is fun (or at least amusing) and IMHO I like the styling of the last Skyline body way more than the current one. Just adding some fuel to the thread. :wink

My worst nightmare - Bony Fife the prosecuting attorney and Ralphie the judge. I won't be able to sleep tonight. Just got worse, StormCat could be my court appointed defense attorney.

Now that's funny Franky! :cheers

Actually I know a forum member here who has a GT-R :biggrin After reading the post he promptly called his dealer and was told this:

"Apparently the owner of the car was little overzealous with his accelerator. You are supposed keep the rpm at power band before you let go of brake. Apparently he consistently redlined it on each launch. The black box records just that. They will allow up to 15 launches at or above redline before they void the warranty. He told me "happy below the redline launch" all day long." Thanks Doc Jon............

This is what I am talking about. 3 sides to every story. I dont know the truth and dont claim to, but just because a person posts that their tranny blew and that nissan would not warrant the claim, does not mean that the tranny does not perform as it was designed to. Time will tell.
Now, I never thought a NISSAN would get a thread PAGES long on the FORD GT FORUM! :rofl
Anyway, you love it or you hate it. Does not seem to be a middle ground.
All of us LOVE the GT here and thats what matters. I would NEVER try to compare a Nissan to the Ford GT. NOT THE SAME ANIMAL.

Shelby,

I'd have to agree with you that he GTR is a pretty fine car - and even more so when it will one day soon be selling for its intended price point of ~$75K. There's no doubt that it is a lot of car for that kind of money and a pretty remarkable feat for a brand new car. Compare that to the vette - another car I both admire and respect, but a platform that has benefited from years of continuous investment and improvement.

The trouble with us GT dudes is that it is just so damn hard to be objective. What Ford has accomplished with the GT simply defies all practical logic. The GT with all of it's looks, engineering, build quaility, performance, reliability, comfort, low maintenance costs, etc. is simply remarkable. Certainly there are no predecessors who have accomplished this and I really, really doubt we'll see anything like it again in our lifetimes.

We all have invested in something truely extraordinary..... we are now just spoiled car idiots with justifiably mis-calibrated objective gauges. It's the One.

Your right. They are selling much higher. Sold 2 of the 3 that I purchased for $90k+
My Red one would already be gone if I was advertising it.

Seriously Shelby, I am happy you can get every extra $ you can for the car and I wish you the best. From my personal experience here in SOCal they are not getting the money and if I hear of anyone really wanting one, I'll send them your way. Bernie and I don't always see eye-to-eye, but more than anything I appreciate the fact that 1) you are running a business and 2) you are a supporting member.

On the other hand, I see the GTR and the crowd it attracts here in SoCal and they turn my stomach. All the magazine racers, ricers and wanna-be's circle these cars like flies on $hit. I stand at a distance and listen to their crap and watch them drink their own coolaid and it turns my stomach. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and as far as the GTR goes, I am eternally blind.

You are gonna get some younger crowds around the GTR. It is a younger generation car. This is something that we can definatly agree on. The only thing I am questioning here is the statement that Nissan is not warranting the tranny. I believe that to be untrue. To each his own. We all like different stuff and thats what makes us unique! You are :thumbsup in my book HHGT

Quick question for you Shelby since you are the only posting on this incredible thread that actually owns a GT-R. What does that owners manual say about using the launch control feature? Do they give a detailed description of how they expect the owner to use it?

Just curious about that.......and curious if we can get this GT-R thread to 100 posts. :lol :cheers

And is this really in the back of the owner's manual?

Well Shelby..I guess it is you and me..

I recently purchased a GTR at five over list..ordered the car in May...it is on the truck headed to Florida...I have a very good friend that works at a large Nissan dealership..he is a team leader GTR tech..I called him immediately upon finally reading the post on the tranny issues. He said that they had a car there right now with three little techs from Japan hoovering over..very protective and secretive. I had a small heart attack until I heard all the details..He was able to examine the car prior to Nissan's inspection..He reported that all four tires where completely bald with rubber particles on the inner fender wheels..Nissan noted that they had seen video watching this guy drag racing and it is obvious from description that the car was severely abused..Nissan is deciding whether to pay for repair..customer has not been denied yet...but does not look good for him. My friend's opinion after I told him I wanted to modify with bolts ons and tune to obtain conservative 50-70 HP..car will perform for years to come. He also agreed that Nissan should have not put in LC and advertise it's use as a standard type practice..He feels that performed properly you can launch safely..but there is no restriction from the computer to maintain heat build up..gears get fried... Another mechanic I know who repairs tannies tells me that stronger gears could be installed aftermarket..as with our GT trannies..dealer can not open trannies..sent back to Japan.. As a side note I had a Ferrari Stradale that I drove for five thousand miles.... sold it for my insane GT..This car came with LC..I never used it once..no need.. It is a gimmick only..ONLY FOR RACING..because you know something will break....anyway....I am in it and plan to put miles on...will have pretty good source for tech and truth..not that is matters to most guys here judging from the responses...I think it will be a great car over time provided you service it with vigor..frequent fluid changes and maybe a tranny cooler of some type... and what ever you do...Don't Launch...Like you said Shelby..Time will tell....
