Or at least if you own one and want to use it.

I was driving my gtr two weeks ago and I heard a loud noise coming from the rear. I turned immediately had my gtr towed to crown nissan st. petersburg fl. They didn't touch my car only called some techs from tennessee to look at the car and record the noise, 4 days later two guys from japan to download some info from the car then left. Then I get a call from the dealer to tell me the news, and they told me that the car was driven without vdc too much and nissan will not warranty the transmission which they said was destroyed, I asked them how much to fix it they told me 20k, no freaking way I will pay 20k on top of what i just paid for the car. I called the gtr number and also talked to nissan consumer affairs got nowhere, now the car is sitting at the dealer. I know we shouldn't launch the car but why own it if you cant use this function, don't sell a car that goes 0-60 in 3.4 sec if the only way you can achieve this speed is to void the warranty , false advertising. Here is the bad news people were fearing it has happened to me and Nissan has told me there are already three people in my shoes, if you are one of these people email me, we have got to get together on this. Just think if any of you guys have taken the vdc off just a few times you have already voided your warranty, good luck what a joke nissan.

I reported on this earlier. 14 launches and your transmission is done and you still have an ugly car :ack - with or without a functional transmission.

WOW that hurts.
Lets build a car that can post great numbers and leave the guy who writes the cheque out in left field when he trys to post them for himself - nice :frown

Every single automotive forum is carrying this news....
Can you imagine the noise on the Nissan boards?
Do you recall the panic of a few owners we observed on this board over the axle bolt issue? Not to mention the black box in the GTR's that tells all....

Excuse me while I run out for some sushi... and a Sapporo, the only Japanese products that I intend to buy in the near term...

Wow thats brutal but when I read the transmission could only handle a few of those launchs before rebuilding, I knew that couldn't be a good thing. To be standing their naked with a 20k bill, I think I'll pass! Should of offered those cars with manual transmissions and I think that would make them more appealing, even though I prefer f1 style transmissions. I don't understand why the computer would even allow for that mode of operation in the car if its gonna grenade the transmission and create a giant expense for the owner.
I am not much of a fan of Japanese sport cars but I thought the GTR was a pretty cool car but with the horror stories I have been hearing about those transmissions I will have to reserve judgement.

Japan has some other good product, but Japanese cars are not high on my shopping list. I don't eat Sushi, but occasionally have a Sapporo. Bony do you distribute that too?

And I was thinking Plymouth Sapporo from the eighties. Telling my age and OCD with cars.

Imagine paying over sticker and getting this news. :thumbsdow They are begging for a class action suit.

Don't the European 430's have a launch control? I thought I read somewhere that it works very well but they won't put it on the American ones due to liability concerns.

This is just purely my opinion. I can't stand "paddle shift" automatics. Trying to pass these off as a manual trans is ridiculous imo. I bought a new Vette for my wife in 06. Used to you could buy a base Vette and drive it 10mos for free. I have had countless Corvettes. That was the biggest pos I have owned that was new in quite sometime. That freak'n paddle shift was crap. Maybe full blown racedrivers like it as in Formula One but for Joe average who likes automatics and likes standards trying to combine the two just doesn't work for me.

I've used the paddle shifters on my wife's car a couple 2-3 times. 'Don't really care for that mode (all my own cars - except for one - are manuals).

I know there are members of this Forum who believe paddles are the cat's meow...and maybe with enough TIME spent using 'em I'd agree...but, by THEN it would have become an "acquired taste". And IMHO, anything you have to "aquire" a taste for must not be anything worth writing home about in the 1st place.

I've read this a couple times just to see if I was reading what I THOUGHT I was reading, and for the life of me I cannot see the sense in any car co. designing/releasing a part that it KNOWS will self destruct if someone actually USES it they way it's supposedly designed to work. :thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow It's OBVIOUS Nissan knows that unit is bogas right from the factory. Yet, they blame their CUSTOMER for the fact it breaks if he actually uses it and sticks HIM with the bill?

And just how in the world can Nissan justify charging $20K for something that's obviously made outta balsa wood? :shrug

Yes, the Euro 430's have LC but the US cars don't.

A feature of the car that must never be used?

It would be like marrying a woman knowing that certain features, if used, would void the marriage.

Oh, hold on. :wink

they would have never gotten close to the incredible Ring lap times without the paddle shifters and pretty much all the hype around the GTR is because of the Ring time. I also hate paddle shifters.
