Detroit, Michigan, May 22 – Continuing the tradition that began in 2006, we are pleased to (finally!) announce for 2008 Ford GT National Rally III: Las Vegas! Despite the end of production, Ford GT owners and build team alumni from across the country will once again unite, this time in Las Vegas at THEHotel at Mandalay Bay to spend several days keeping the passion for this fantastic supercar alive. Events will run from Wednesday, September 10th and conclude the evening of Saturday, September 13th.

It is with particularly great pleasure that we have accepted the invitation of the legendary Carroll Shelby to bring our community to Shelby Automobiles! Last year, Carroll made a guest appearance during Rally II at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, and it quickly became a memorable highlight of the event. When the American automotive icon extended his invitation for us to visit with him in Las Vegas, saying yes was a no-brainer. Beyond the LeMans winner’s involvement with the original Ford GT40 during the amazing run in the 1960’s, Carroll also served as a senior technical advisor on the modern Ford GT supercar program, adding his counsel on yet another American legend. It will be an honor to bring these vehicles to Las Vegas and the SAI facilities, where the Shelby-Ford tradition continues with such products as the Shelby GT, GT500KR, and the Shelby Super Snake.
For 2008, owners will get a chance to stretch the legs of their Ford GT at Las Vegas Motor Speedway! On Thursday we will use the 1.1 mile LVMS inside road course to get in some laps at a safe pace. If you’ve ever felt like hitting the track for a few laps, what better place to do it than in the company of your fellow Ford GT owners? LVMS will also give us a chance to showcase a number of tuner vehicles with every modification you can think of, and probably some that you can’t. And as always, Ford GT Team drivers will be on hand to scare you straight as they remind us all how big the difference between good drivers and the rest of us is.
On Friday the folks at Shelby Autos have made their facility available to us for factory and museum tours. The museum is always changing and includes some of the most famous cars ever produced from the first Cobra CSX2000 to prototypes of the Series 1, Shelby GT-H, Terlingua, GT500KR, and others. The first Ford GT prototype mule is also currently at the museum. Shelby Autos currently produce a number of Shelby products including the new 2008 Shelby GT500KR and the Shelby Cobra CSX4000.
Shelby will also be our gracious host on the grounds of SAI as we aim ever higher at what has become our annual Charity Auction. What started as an impromptu auction by GT owner Les Davidson in 2006 raised over $40k in 2007 with Carroll as special guest. We hope to shatter that amount this year as Les auctions Ford GT memoribilia, artwork and merchandise on behalf of the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital. He was able to use our contribution towards a total of $213,000 last year. The Veterans Hospital treats many amputee soldiers on the 3rd floor of the hospital. The money we have generated, with your help, goes to help soldiers that have lost limbs, as well as other soldiers, return back to as normal life as possible.

Ford GT owners will also get a chance to share technical discussion with Ford GT Team alumni (what’s the hot topic for 2008?), enjoy dinner at the Mandalay Bay convention center, receive the next limited edition Camilo Pardo-designed original commemorative Ford GT National Rally lithograph, enjoy a banquet on the grounds of Shelby Autos to hear guest speakers from the Ford GT Team, and more! Oh, and did we mention it's in LAS VEGAS!
