for anyone who installed the whipple, how tight and how much effort did it take to get the belt installed? Mine seemed one size too small, no slack on the tensioner at all.

It needs to be a 91.1; what you have is too small. FYI it should go on EASY and then get initial adjustment made with the snout idler before releasing the OEM tensioner.

This is what I did. I assume you allready have the other oil and ass belts off. I routed the belt thru and took off the two bolts on the 10 rib tensioner. The third bolt I loosed it up to slide the belt on it. Then I put the 3 bolts back in palce and TQed to factory specs. Now when you do this you need to remember the blower will have to come off one more time in order to set the whipple idler. Since I am running a 89.1 belt it fits tight. So having said that I had my partner hold the tensioner unloaded and pushed in the whipple idler. I marked the postion of it. This will give you excellent belt wrap. Then I removed the blower and TQed the whipple idler to 25 ft/lbs. Now when I was putting it back together for the last time I undid the idler bracket which consists of 3 5 mm allen head type bolts. Then I rolled the idler bracket upwards and put the belt in place. Once I did that I aligined all the bolt threads and snugged everything back up. Hope that helps.

On the site it states 2345mm/92.3" 10-Rib SC belt (4.00, 4.25 pulley)

Shadowman might know more since I failed on my attempt to install the 4.00 since I was sent the wrong belt. I do have my instructions @ the shop and can look at them tomorrow. It doesnt tell you the part# but it tells you the lenght. You can use the pictures in my other thread to reference the correct part number and not pay $189 for a $35.00 belt.

Thanks for the tips. I wonder is there anyway to get a good estimate on where to set the idler so that the superchanger can be install one time only. Is there a clearance issue to getting the belt on the the supercharger pulley with the idler in place?

Yes sir. You cannot do it. The blower will have to be removed inorder to do pulley swaps. I tried that and failed :thumbsdow I dont want to discuss the words that came out of the owners mouth when he saw how close it was. We were all under the impression you could swap the pulleys without removing the blower. Look in this picture of how close it is to the window. Mind you the transmission is out of the car. But clearance will not be much better once the car is fully assemblied.

Interesting. I wonder why Whipple's website says this:

4 bolts to remove SC pulley, no need to pull SC off for pulley.

There would be no way to do so by Whipple and have the exact same results on each gal becasue even the OEM tensioner can be move slightly.

The proper way to install and set the preload is as follows;

Install the supercharger completely then with the supercharger belt in place and the tension released on the OEM tensioner slide the snout mounted secondary idler; I would call this more of a belt wrap which is a very good feature; tighten the secondary snout mounted idler and then release or better put allow the OEM tensioner to apply the final pressure on the supercharger belt.

To properly tighten the snout mounted secondary idler you will need a modified allen wrench and with such it is very easy.

Now back to your question; can the supercharger be set into place, slide the snout mounted secondary idler into postion, mark it, remove the supercharger and tighten the allen bolt and then reinstall the supercharger; yes and yet IMO this is a very long way to get to the finish line.

All the best

The only thing I can think they are talking about is to remove the blower snout. But that would be more than four bolts. I will take better pics tomorrow and maybe someone with better knowledge can tell me. As of right now I am sticking with there is no way in hell to swap that pulley EASILY. :wink

Now I have been further educated as well; I too remained under the impression that a pulley swap could be made while the supercharger was in place; very interesting

Thank you for the heads up

Maybe Whipple is assumes we will cut a hole in the glass to get to the 4 bolts. I think I saw one of the converted race GT with the glass removed.

Someone with a Whipple should give them a call to explain how it is done. I got sent a letter by the FTC when just one customers claimed that we made false claims about one of our products. We had to have our lawyers write a letter explaining how our product description was correct and accurate.

I would like to follow this issue out a bit further because I remember having chats with Whipple about this because if for example you swap from a 19 PSI pulley to a 21 PSI pulley it requires a belt swap so this process is not easy however if going from one pulley to another that use the same belt I was told release the tension, remove the 4 bolts..... swap the pulley....reflash as required..... let her roll.

All I can do for you tomorrow is take close ups of the clearance. I have the shortened snap on allen wrenches and cant get them in there for the pulley swap. Like I said before. I do not consider myself a expert, But just doing this job I dont see how it is possible. Maybe whipple can prove me wrong. Wouldnt be the first time :thumbsup And Im always up to constructive criticism. :biggrin

I called whipple about the belt, they say they cut two ribs off to make it a 10 rib belt. As far as the length they say that it's correct and it should take all day to put just the belt on. But they will sell me the belt on their website . THANKS
