I think that yellow with black stripes is the most visually striking and attractive, followed very closely by red with white stripes. You definitely need to see the heritage in person before buying to make sure if it is right for you- it does indeed stand out in a crowd. Tungsten and silver are classy, but certainly not as visually striking, at least to me

The tungsten really is amazing in person. pics do not do it justice.

as many of said, first choice is personal preference.

I wanted yellow hands down.

they are ALL impressive.

Pick out your favorite combination and start looking.

As others have mentioned, your current collection might play a part in your decision. I have two blue with white stripes, a white and a graphite (tungsten sorta) car so I wanted some color! Yellow or Red...

I think this car looks good in every color, except that funky white/orange one that someone painted. I chose the Tungsten for 2 reasons. It is a bit tamer and bit less racy looking and the only color my wife liked. In fact it is the Tungsten color that helped me get my wife to agree with me that buying this car is the right thing to do! And I had to do something before they were all sold! As we all know this car is a real head-turner for sure.

Silver was a 2005 color only- I think you may have added tungsten and silver together. And , silver is also the most beautiful. followed by black(no stripes), then blue. then heritage.:wink
You can't go wrong, they all look great.

Blue with white stripes is the closest you will come to true Shelby heritage. The original Shelby Gt40 color was Blue with white stripes. It is the "All American" color combo.

White is the best! It's not an opinion, it's a fact. Don't believe me, just ask me and I will tell you.:biggrin

I was fortunate to be able to choose my color when ordering the car. Actually maybe fortunate is too strong, as I agonized over the color for more than a year. At first I was thinking red, because the press cars I drove were red and they were gorgeous! The car looked so good I couldn't imagine getting any other color. But then I talked to the Ford people and they told me two things:

1. EVERY car being ordered is red (this was in spring of 2005)
2. You should really get the blue.

Since the Ford folks that told me this were able to see all the colors I figured they would know. I also didn't like the idea of going to future Ford events and being "one of the red ones" because I knew there were going to be A LOT of red ones at every gathering.

I also knew Heritage was coming for 2006, but I would have lost my place in line if I waited for a 2006 model, which meant another 8-plus months waiting (just couldn't do that! :ack ).

So when I ordered the car I picked blue but I still had reservations. My Ford contact told me another blue one was coming in to the local dealer before my car went down the line. I could go see this one in person (still hadn't seen a blue one in person) and change my mind if necessary (I was still thinking red).

So the other car came in a few weeks later. I rushed to the dealer to see it before the buyer picked it up. About 8 seconds after seeing the blue color I said, "YUP! Blue it is!!"

One other point: I also considered white because it looked great in the studio shots of the car. But I worried it would look too "glare-y" (is that a word) in bright sunlight. Well, I've now seen enough white ones in person to know it looks GREAT in every type of light, so while I still love my blue I've decided that white would have looked just as good.

Never really considered Yellow (too "wild" for me) or silver (silver is the new white -- it's waaay too common these days on every model car). Ironically, silver ended up being the rarest color for the GT because it was a one-year only color and not ordered nearly as much as the other one year only color -- Heritage.

Other colors that I've liked more than I expected (after seeing them in person):
1. Black
2. Tungsten

Is it starting to sound like I think the GT looks good in just about every color? Good, because it does. That's a true mark of how great the design is -- it basically can't look bad no matter how it's painted!

I take solace in one fact -- blue will never get old for me. Heritage, Red, and even Yellow look good, but your REALLY have to like the message those colors send when driving your GT, because there is no getting away from that message whenever you're out on the street. Those colors all scream HERITAGE or RED or YELLOW 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I know I would love any of them for a weekend, or even a month. But I worry that down the line I might get tired of the their "loudness" when I just want to enjoy the car without hitting everyone else over the head with my car's presence (okay, yes, this car pretty much does that in every color...).

What I'm trying to say is that blue is a subdued color, meaning it doesn't really have the impact of those other colors. :frown But on the hand, it doesn't really have the impact of those other colors, if you get my meaning. :thumbsup

I now feel the same way about white, which is why I could have gone with that one, too.

Despite all that, I'd still love to get a Heritage and just bubble wrap it. Then I could mod the snot out of my blue while knowing I had a back-up.

One thing is for sure -- it's a great dilemma to have!!!:banana

ENZO BTR, thanks for the post, that was exactly what I was looking for. Right now, I am torn between red, black, or white. I think my decision will be made after seeing a white in person. I just can't seem to get away from red, all my sports cars have been red, you just can't go wrong with red. I'd like to get something else but my eyes always get drawn back to red. I LIKE BLACK but it hides some of the lines and trim. I can't find a blue with white stripes so that's pretty much out. Which leaves white. I love it in pics but just haven't seen one in person. There is one in St Louis which is the closest to me so I may take a peek at it this weekend. Thanks for your help everyone.

It's still between the Heritage and Blue with white stripes. The blue is amazing and i fell in love with it at the Ford Centennial revealing of the first three cars.

Easy. Buy one in Full Size. And the buy the other favorite color as a table or wall hanging GT in scale size.

Then you will have the best of both worlds.

I have the 1:1 Black, and I am ordering a Heritage #6 wall model. :banana

jdoc, you're more than welcome to come see my red/white if you're in the St. Louis area. I don't know what else is available in the St. Louis area, but most of the dealers have been asking crazy money. Where is the one you'll look at?

To be honest, you could paint this car in artificial-limb beige and it would look good. I had a limited choice (being in the UK) but chose red because I like red cars. I think it suits the GT as it's the 'classic' - a bit like a tungsten Vanquish or a yellow Murcielago. The red is perfect.... :biggrin

Tough choices!

If you really want to impress people get a Black one. They are harder to keep clean but they have that Tuxedo effect on women. I have driven though shopping areas and actually seen panties drop off of women. It's true, I swear!

You know what they say...

Indeed. A black one, forget it. Non available no more... (no stripes that is)..

TIP:
If you wait too long, the discussion will have become entirely academic.. :wink
Unless you look for scale models 1:48, that is...

When we first built the early 06s at Wixom, We called the Tungsten color "Wine and Cheese" and the Heritage as "Beer and Chips". Funny how just by changing the color of the same car, you can elicit totally different feelings about it. :thumbsup
