Well, today the sun was out, and the sky was blue, and the temps were above 50*, so I decided to wake the GT from its long winter nap. Of course, the battery didn't want to cooperate fully, but after a quick charge, it indeed had the juice to start back up.

First off, after 6 months of driving a variety of different cars, the first thing that comes to mind back behind the wheel is that the steering in this car is ridiculous. It's telepathic, but not in a darty or nervouse way. Definitely have to recalibrate your input-output assumptions when you get back into a car like this after driving around sedans and suvs.

Second, I realized after having been around a 2010 GT500 this weekend, the GT (even with the turbos) is very, very quiet with a stock muffler. I was digging the sleeper aspect given that budget shortfalls have every cop within 500 miles on high alert for any additional revenue. I'm not kidding when I say someone got a ticket in our neighborhood a few weeks ago for going 4 mph over the limit.

Third, holy shit is this car fast. Don't get me wrong, the GT is a great car from the factory, and it's really fun with a smaller pulley and some extra juice. But there is just nothing more exciting than the rush of power as the twins kick in and you absolutely rocket forward. Especially when it's 50* out and you've been driving a 273hp DD for months. I called Heff afterwards to say "good work dude". It's been just over a year since I swapped for the TT's and it's been absolutely worth it. Someday ask Rich Brooks what kind of life my car leads, and he'll confirm that it's an excellent test bed. :lol I'm just happy to have a car that double the power enhances, not ruins.

Anyways, I came back in from driving and was sending texting messages and making phone calls because you forget how unbelievably awesome the car is. The absence of the car all winter indeed makes the speed heart grow fonder. I have reconfirmed that this car is just the car.

They are remarkable. Having just traded my M6 for the new CTS-V, I find myself leaving the GT indoors more than I used to. (The M6 was just not as easy to drive around town as the GT... imagine that). So after 3 weeks of driving the CTS without any seat-time in my 'little ford' I decided to take her for a run... just to make sure the oil pump didn't dry out.

What a car... as you said the steering is ridiculous. How did make it that perfect? It's the best of all worlds... I still can't find the words to adequately describe it. I remember the first time a drive my GT home. I was think giggling the whole time and thinking "how could they make it this perfect?"

Cheers Dave, thanks for making me smile.

Started mine for the 1st time yesterday since last fall. Sure sounded good, will drive it tomorrow, to remeber the feeling.... Would drive it today as the sun is actually out, but might not be the best easter event to ditch the family to go for a drive....

My GT is a twelve month car. Couldn't imagine just not being able to drive it for six months at a time.

And I get that same good feeling each and every time I drive it.

I feel for you DBK.

Us lucky ones drive it almost everyday. I may get just alittle dulled to it's abilities but I found the best way to get out of that is to let someone else drive it. On the run yesterday I let one of my good cobra buddies drive it, with me as passenger of course, for about 75 miles. You do need to pick and choose the right ones. He has had fast cars all his life and is a great driver. I find that when I do let someone drive it I have to push them alittle since they are so respectfull of the car and it's power. I normally wait till they have a few minutes in it and then when they leave a stop sign make them really try it out. It's always the same, it starts with a huge smile followed by usually a wow and then the statement "This thing is scary fast" I tell them then that it's stock and for a tune, pipes and pulley I can get another 100+ HP. Another big smile and wow. I thought ya'll would get a kick out of what my friend posted on our local club forum last night after driving the GT.

I don't mind putting it away. I figure over the last three years, I've managed 15,000 miles with it sitting for half the time. If we had no winter my car would have 40,000 miles by now :lol

After sitting in a real Ford GT-40 on our showroom in 1967 I knew I would own a Ford GT-40 some day. Thirty nine years later I finally got my Ford GT and every time I start the engine my mind takes me back to those 39 years ago. Ford built my dream car and made my life complete. They really built "THE ONE". Dave, enjoy your butterfly as she just came out of her cacoon, but be careful buddy. Tomy

Dear Dave,
I got my girl out yesterday for an hour drive. I am in Iowa and I usually wait until after two good rains to get the salt off the streets, but it was just too nice a day to pass up. Ran beautifully, even though it is totally "stock". Tis a pleasure and always brings a big grin.
