The result: Pobst ran the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR at Laguna to a new track record of 1:28:65. That record-setting time is 5.27 seconds faster than the previous-generation ACR's track record at Laguna and 1.24 seconds faster than his previous Laguna track record in the Porsche 918 Spyder (1:28:65 vs 1:29.89). That's the equivalent of 11 car lengths after just one lap at Laguna Seca.

I'm really digging the Gen V's. ACR maybe a wee bit overkill for a DD, though:) Too bad it won't save the Viper name.

Impressive WITHOUT a DCT!!

Impressive WITHOUT a DCT!!

Old school baby!

They're unbeatable on a track, but pretty poor in the streets. They are not well behaved on anything other than perfectly flat surfaces. My Gen IV SRT10 roadster is a sexy beast, but in the streets, baldy mannered and hops around turns over bumps...not great and certainly not inspiring.

Seriously fast and very "racy" looking for sure. I can't help but think that car with a low psi forced induction would have been more successful in sales. I understand noone needs an 800 hp street car but I think that would have made me more interested.....

I agree, Dodge has to do something a little more innovative with this car (the Viper in general). It's such a great platform.

Even more so considering the 918 is AWD with much more power. Could be a new Nurburgring record on the way.

I gotta see what all the fuss is about!

I wonder what it can run at WGI?
Is it an IRS or solid axle car?

IRS. '14 Mustang was the last of the solid axles.
