Have you ever wondered where that plane flying overhead is going and what type of aircraft I just watched on my
laptop the plane whose vapour trail I could see overhead and was blown away by all the information and also the view.

This is definitely a keeper.

You are also going to be totally blown away when you see how many aircraft are flying in your area...
I can now see why an aircraft traffic controller is one very, very busy person.

This is amazing!! If you can get this working for you it will tell you who is flying and where they are going.
Here is a note from the guy who sent it to me. These are all the aircraft in the air right now.
In the left hand column, there is a box called "planes." The number in the box is the number of aircraft airborne.
This view is what the traffic management people see for planning purposes at the various airports.

Every day you see planes in the sky, sometimes very high..with or without con-trails.
We ask ourselves questions : What type of plane, Airbus A320,330,350? Boeing.....or other.
Where does it come from, where is it going, what altitude, what speed, what company etc.

You can see all the information instantly on your screen. but before clicking on the link:

http://www.flightradar24.com/

Some tricks;

On the map you will see all the planes in the air. To view your region or town, you can zoom in by tapping with your mouse.
Click on an airplane, and on the left screen you will get all the info. airline, type, speed, altitude in real time, re-calculated every 10 seconds.

On some you can also click on ‘view from the cockpit’.

Yikes. That is a LOT of planes. It probably doesn't cover all private planes so that would increase the density even more.

It shows all planes, commercial, charter or private that are being handled by air traffic control (ATC). It sometimes will show aircraft not in communication with an ATC facility, if a controller has labeled it for traffic avoidance purposes.

I think if giving a squawk number by ATC or a local controller, you'll show up. There is a Air force base in my area (Fairchild) and they show up but without tail numbers, destination speed etc..

Imagine what that looked like at about 12:00 on 9/11/2001

Now I wonder does AF1 show up on the map. I doubt it, but just look for a large empty space on the screen.

Go on and start clicking on planes and see how many of them are FDX and UPS. Right now in and around Denver it's about 1 in 10.

I was noticing all the UPS and Fed Ex flights as well. Also tracked a G550 out of Aspen to Vegas, my guess he's not going to be playing the nickel slots. http://search.aol.com/aol/image?q=gulfstream+g550&v_t=comsearch51

Pretty cool, but when I click on some of the flights, the departure and destination information doesn't always jive with the flight path on the map.

I tried to track the route of a flight from Denver to Portland (where I am right now) by flight number. The leg it found was the initial segment to Denver, with nothing I could find to track the rest of its segments.

Use flightaware as referenced above to track a specific flight.
