Members of America's armed forces are serving around the world in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and South Korea. Far from their family and friends, these dedicated men and women have limited access to the entertainment and the everyday comforts of being "back home." Here's your chance to make a difference! Show America's Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines how much you personally appreciate their service.

With the help of Military.com, we’ve collected thousands of magazine requests from service members for Primedia magazines. When you donate you are giving a service member a subscription to a magazine they have specifically asked to receive. It may seem like a small thing, but for young Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines away from home, getting a free subscription to a favorite magazine is a huge boost to morale.

Or, you can give a gift subscription to a beloved veteran, patriotic family member, or a dear friend, and still support out troops.

This unique program also allows you to directly contribute to the families of our fallen heroes. For each Gift Subscription you send, Subscriptions for Soldiers will donate $2 to the Tragedy Assistance Program For Survivors (TAPS). TAPS is a one-of-a-kind, non-profit Veteran Service Organization offering hope, healing comfort, and care to the thousands of American armed forces families who face the death of a loved one each year.

I just donated a few... I know you don't have to donate a lot but $10 goes a long way as a thank you for them...

"Soldier" song

By sheer coincidence, last night (Tuesday Nov. 7th) a local TV station did a profile of a young songwriter named Shawn Hlookoff. This guy wrote a very touching song to honor the troops and their families, and it apparently has really caught on with soldiers around the world. Shawn has gotten hundreds of letters from Iraq and Afghanistan thanking him for his music. Shawn is a struggling writer with limited means but he has sent something like 3500 or so of his CD's to the troops for free. So perhaps people reading this might want to check this out further with the links below; and perhaps think of assisting him in his very generous pursuit.

Link 1 - this is a link to the TV station. Click the button and choose the Tuesday broadcast. Shawn's interview is towards the end>>

This link is to Shawn's MySpace post, where i think a clip of the song is posted there - look on right hand side.

On this day in 1775 the US Marine Corps was born http://www.lee.army.mil/marines/MCHistory.html

I had a nice USMC insignia to upload but the forum server wouldn't 'take' it. Anyway, tomorrow Americans and countries in the British Empire honor their veterans and military. Every year we make note of this in true appreciation of those great people, and because we know some people in the military that are serving now. Thanks.
