Some brake questions ???

The factory shop manual says to use DOT 3 High Performance brake fluid. I've used Castrol LMA DOT 4 in all my vehicles for many years replacing every other year on street driven cars and haven't had any issues. I will be doing this duty soon and would like opinions ( go with manual recommended DOT 3 or DOT 4 ).

I am also thinking about changing to the recommended Mintex Xtreme pads from Stillen. The shop manual says to remove and replace the two per caliper bolts to install pads. Visually I don't see why the pads can't be removed after removing the pins without removing the calipers. Pistons can be compressed without removing calipers so why waste bolts if that is the only reason to remove them?

Also, are you changing fluids ever 12 or 24 months?

For street driven cars I've always changed brake/clutch fluid every 24 months.

DOT 4 is more hydroscopic than DOT 3. Not a big deal if changed regularly. I use 4 on the track and 3 for normal use.
