Nice! Did that come with the headers? If not, the headers make it sound really great!

No headers. I need to keep the cats. That would have been an insane deal. The muffler is $2,700 new from FRPP; $2,350 from a couple of Ebay vendors.

Yes, that's good. But I think it's still too quiet. I guess I got spoiled by the sound from the side pipes on my Cobra, and of the raw rumble from several GT40s (notably Mikes, and the original J7) with nothing more than the ball of snakes. So I too have to have the cats (emissions tests) so I'm going to renew my search for a X- or H- pipe config. More homework necessary. It's a winter project :)

Well, the OEM sounds good to me, so if I get a little more bottom end and closed throttle burble I'll be happy. If I need more, I'll apply a can opener. Jay Leno's sounds good to me though! :)

You may want to check the welds, the early mufflers had a tendency to crack. I got lucky with the used one I bought, since Borla stood behind it even though I wasn't the original purchaser.

It looks good. It was only on the car long enough to get discolored. Getting it installed today. :)

Here is the OEM on its last day. I'll post a comparison later.

Thanks for posting before and after (when it shows up). I've never heard a direct comparison. I can't hear the rumble from within the car but I was told by a bystander at the Cars and Coffee last Saturday that it had a pretty good tone. I guess I'll have to turn the keys over to a friend and have him do a driveby.

The FRPP/Borla Exhaust is in

Adds some bass to the baritone, more pop and burble on closed throttle, and a bit louder. The difference is more noticable in the car under load. WOT in gear is LOUD. I like it.

My local Ford dealer did the work. Really good guys. Very careful. The clamshell came off. The stock muffler was a PITA to get out. Pulling the transmission mount bolt only dropped the trans by maybe 1/4". It took lots of wiggling by two guys to get it out, but ultimately, no hammers were required.

I was surprised that the stock muffler has pressed studs in the flanges, while the Borla does not. At least the Borla I got does not. There was no evidence of studs being pressed out and IDK why anyone would do that. So, we improvised some grade 8 nuts and bolts.

Alignment of the tips was another PITA. One clamp would not tighten. This is what comes from buying used parts.

I'd say it was about 4 hours from the looking/analyzing stage to finish, with several guys involved along the way. They charged me for 2.5 hours labor.

I was very happy to pay to have this job done.

I hope they pointed the tips downward a little, cause when the motor warms up, the tips rise a little and they will press up against the top of the plastic surround, especially when you rev it. You might watch it sometime when it's really already hot with someone else behind the wheel. I also hope they wore gloves or wiped it down so it doesn't mark when hot.

The problem was getting the tips high enough. We got the muffler as high as possible without putting stress on the cats and the tips are still low in the surround. So...if they come up when hot that will be a good thing.

The OEM tips were slightly below center, but it didn't matter because they were an inch smaller diameter. With larger tips, the lower than center position is more noticible. A lot of effort went into getting those tips centered...we even discussed shaving the tops so they would slide up a bit higher, but dismissed that idea.

This may become moot with a bumper delete. haha.
