Shifting into 2nd Gear

I was up early this morning and decided to that the GT out for a spin. It was “cool” out ( I wouldn’t say cold). I noticed the first couple of shifts it was harder than usual to shift into 2nd gear. After approximately 3 minutes and 4 or 5 shifts everything was fine.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Normal for most FGTs. I usually skip second until about 1/2 mile then everything shift fine.

Everyone here would 2nd what 'ICE said on that.

You'll also very likely hear a rather faint, 'rattle-like', slight 'grinding" or 'gear growl' sound when the car is idling in neutral if you get out of the car, stand beside the clam shell and listen for it. That's normal too for many of the cars. I know #1079 had a slight case of it. :cheers

I usually let the car warm up to 160 degrees before driving it. Also, if you have not had the transaxle fluid changed you should, it will become noticeably easier to change into 2nd gear.

There is a very long thread about this and the 2nd gear grind. Please do a search.

Any one of us who have owned older Ferraris know the drill, Skip 2nd until you've driven 40 miles or so to warm the tranny lube!

This is true of many cars, not just the GT and Ferraris, same very common problem with the NSX too, and if I recall, the NSX transmission was a benchmark that the GT aimed for. I even brought my car back to the dealer when I first got it because of the "grind" going into second.

My Vipers have the perfect fix--skip shift--forces you from 1st to 4th (one of the most obnoxious nannie componenets ever but easily "severed") Seriously, I drove the other day in 35 degrees and as others said did not venture into 2nd for 5 minutes or so--hate that sound.

Corvettes have this as well, the first thing I did to the one I owned was to get the $20 fixit thingy so that I could skip the skipshift!!!! I want it to be my choice what gear I'm in!!!
